Its a Star Wars October . . .

Hello everyone. Thought I would share our recent activities. My wife sort of dropped a bomb on me last week and said, "I think a Star Wars Halloween Party is in order this year." Of course I immediately jumped into action.

We tend to get a little nuts around here at Halloween. Its pretty much my wife and I's favorite holiday, and our theme parties get pretty out of control. The last couple years we have had 50 - 60 guests, for our little house thats pretty full. We usually build a bunch of props, and try and transform the house into a movie set. The building process typically starts in August. I was under the impression we were not doing anything this year . . . apparently I was wrong. So here we go!

This year we figured we would do things a little different. The plan is to set up the house as if we are filming an actual Star Wars Movie. So we are going to build a lot of partial sets and props, mixed in with a variety of "green screens" around the house. Then during the actual party I am going to fire up several cameras, film a bunch of stuff, and then after the party I plan on editing all the shots and creating some kind of goofy movie from the nights activities. I have some pretty ridiculous friends, so I imagine I'll have plenty of footage . . . just can't guarantee it will be good footage:) at any rate, i'll be able to provide all the guests with a copy of the film later on.

So, why would any of you care? Well I can't be sure you actually will, but I thought I would share several aspects of the build and hope you get a kick out of them. We are trying to make sure all the items we are working on can be used in the basement once Halloween is over . . . we'll see. So here we go . . .

Prop and Item List: I have no idea if I will be able to accomplish all of this or not, but we'll give it a shot. (remember, we are setting up this as a "film Set" which will allow us to not completely finish all the items on the list, perhaps just enough for it to be filmed from one angle.

  • Falcon Hold Bench - We have a space in the basement where we are building a bar/lounge area, and I would like a Falcon Bench with the Dejarik table so i'll be able to put it down there.
  • Sci-Fi Style Cantina Bar - This won't be an exact replica of the Mos Esley Cantina, but more of an Industrial style bar with Sci-Fi elements. (my wife only has so much tolerance for my Star Wars obsession:)
  • Jawa Droid Market - Planning on making a Tatooine "Jawa Market" where we will have all the food and beverages. Going to have a couple of Jawas, bunch of droids and droid parts all mixed in. You know, get your droid fixed while you snack on Bantha Legs and drink Jawa Juice."
  • . . . and what ever else I can find time to put together:wacko

So here is what we have so far . . .

My wife wants to be a Twi'lek Smuggler. So I finally had a chance to use the horrible mold of my DL-44 that I tried last year. It was my first mold and I didn't finish it too well, but hey it works for a custom Smuggler Blaster! My wife is making the holster and belt, and so far it looks pretty sweet. We also needed some Droid Callers too right? So I put a couple of those together. (thanks to azheat01 I stole the idea from him on his 1:1 Jawa build which is awesome!)

Droid Callers . . . just fun stuff.

Next I did a bunch of work on some of the droid domes I have been meaning to get to. I figure these will look cool being worked on by the Jawa's in the market, as well as the new GNK-D2 on display:D

Thats all I have right now, more to come very soon!

Man, you never cease to amaze me. New favorite thread that I'll live vicariously through.
Keep posting!

With some scenes in TFA in mind ... you could set up some used and weathered scraps of cloth and tents in the yard ... to extend the available rooms for so many guests :wacko

Absolutely Agree. I was hoping to take this type of look throughout . . . the stuff and decor of the background.

Love the project idea! Will be following your progress on this one.

curious about your weathering technique on the blaster. Are you putting anything on top of the "metal" coat before you paint black?

Great work on all that stuff! That's going to be an awesome party for sure.

Thank you, fun stuff!

Thank you!

The weathering is an old trick I learned here on the RPF. Once the silver is sprayed on, I dress the edges I want to show damage with Elmers Rubber Cement. You can use other product like liquid latex and even mustard. But I'm a fan of the rubber cement.

I think I have heard that one before, but never saw a reference to it being done. Maybe it's such an old trick that everyone assumes now. :)

thanks,

Slow progress getting ready for this shindig, and we are going to have to kick it in gear if I want even 1/2 of what we have planned done. We'll see :confused

At any rate I did manage to make a little progress on these . . .

I'm calling this thing a "power box" not sure what else to call it. It is just a bit of dressing I am going to attach to the bar to give it a little star wars flare.

And owning a 1:1 Jawa has been something on my geek list for a long long time. I actually have been saving this old halloween skull for this exact purpose. I like to thing this is what a Jawa actually looks like underneath:lol My wife has been gracious enough to sew the cloak, and she made the ammo belt . . . have I mentioned this woman is awesome?

I have been using Azheat01's build as reference, as well as the display that "dmpsk8" posted. http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=141731&highlight=jawa+build I really like unique pose of dmpsk8's Jawa.

Azheat, I am definitely going to be hitting you up on the material you used for the hands on your 1:1 build, or feel free to respond here if you see this before I get a message to you.

anyway, here is the skeleton so far . . .

I love how your "power box" looks before it was painted! The definitely looks like something straight from the Star Wars set!

Still watching. Fantastic!
I have to work on Halloween now so this thread is going to be it for me. Keep the pics coming!
