Iron Man Mark VI Foam Suit - My first build thread! Race to Halloween!!!!

Made some more progress the past few days. Got the Shoulders and Brace made and put together all the torso pieces. See below. Feedback welcome and remember im going to remake the helmet!

I also just got the pieces for the Biceps cut out so they should be finished tonight hopefully. More updates coming so stay tuned!

Update: Been kind of busy lately but I did get the biceps built and I am about half way through the forearms. Should have pics of them up by tomorrow night. This is going to be a heck of a task to try and get done by Halloween!!

Ok so I got the forearms and the handplates done. Also joined the biceps and forearms together.

Still need to do the hip pods, thighs, chins, boots, hands, and redo the helmet. Then electronics and seal/paint. Going to be really tough to get it done in time..

This is looking really good so far. What are you useing to cut the foam because if you can archive a much cleaner cut on your pieces it will make your work much better.

Great build so far! My biggest problem with my foam IM build is knowing where to cut on an angle. It is ****ing driving me crazy. Going to attempt my 3rd time this weekend.

thanks man! Using Xacto #2's to make my cuts and scissors for cutting the necessary angles. I think its the angles not being perfect that may be making it look a little off.. :facepalm

I so totally know what you mean! I'm getting better at judging based on what I can see in the pep file but man that sure is the hardest part so far. Im not too terribly good at painting either so I may have to get help to get this thing painted and look decent lol..

Got the thighs build today. Took foreeeeeeever to get them done. they fit pretty well too. Next up is the shins. I hear they are the funest part of the project.. :unsure

The shins are about as tough as the thighs. Your thighs look great! Your almost there!

Thanks! I have about half of the shins cut out in foam already. Should be a good way theough building them before the nights over..

Ok so i've made more progress and have been so busy i havent updated. I got the Shins done and assembled the legs. Also made the back joint coverings. Mounted the hip pods, and made the upper thigh pieces. Still have to do the boots and gloves and remake the helmet before sealing and finishing. This will be right down to the wire..

I got most of the boot parts put together, now I just need to assemble the three peices they are split into in the pep file. Will have pics of them up tonight. Since I am not happy with the helmet and I am not sure I will be able to make one in time, I am looking to get one from the JY that can be here by this weekend if possible. Not sure if that will happen or not but I'm trying!!

Boots are done, back leg inserts done, mounted the shoulder caps, and finishing hands tonight, and then sealing and hopefully painting tomorrow night!! Hey is there too much gap Around my shoulder cap area??

So things are taking me much longer to do than expected :/. I missed all the weekend action and costume contests . Still planning to make a few on Halloween day though. As of now, I have finished construction of all foam pieces, have everything PVA'ed with 5 coats of 50/50 elmers glue-all, and 1.5 coats of primer. (ran out before I could finish the second coat so I have to go get more). I also have the hands completed too. This was a challenging task to say the least. I first found a good pair of baseball gloves and sprayed them with a burgundy Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabic paint. I then put the glove on and put that into the foam hand and glued to glove to the inside of the foam hand one finger at a time. Now I can take the glove on an off easily and there is no risk to messing up the foam on the fingers. I have also created and tested the hand replusors and have a good idea on the reactor design. I am still waiting for my helmet to come (bought a completed helmet from angelousprime23 in the JY which will have LED eyes and hinges and is already painted). We tried to pull off a miracle and get the helmet here by Saturday with 3 day shipping but as of right now the tracking says its sitting in Memphis, TN waiting for custom clearance since it is coming from UK. Here are some updated pics for you! .and yes, my repulsor is a water bottle cap inside a 2 liter bottle cap lol

Sorry to hear you didn't make it in time for the Halloween party weekend. :-( since Halloween fell in the middle of the week, maybe there will be some parties around you this weekend?? If not, you could always dress up as iron man for thanksgiving!! Lol why not?!?!
You have done a remarkable job. Better than anyone could have guessed, especially with your time restraints! Be proud of you suit. Remember, the Iron Man 3 premiere is in a few short months! =D
