Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one! (Iron man walks the mall, Pics added!)

Hey MTB!!!
This a superb job done with the pep files, you´re reaching your goal and now is when you´re going to be most excited and wanting to finish hehehehe.

Keep working I believe you can go to the premier suited up :thumbsup

Thanks man! Yeah I definitely want to work on it all the time. I almost just did it while it was raining but then decided not to. I want this to come out as perfect as I can make it so I didn't want to risk the rain ruining it. I hope I can finish it in time!

Those look great mtb!

I was able to get the shoulders started too

and here they are starting to be sanded

I wasnt able to finish sanding the shoulders today, but i will tomorrow. I also sprayed the first coat of plasti-dip on the abs and belt.

I probably should have put something behind them before I sprayed, you can see where I did it lol

Well thats it for now. I will have more updated soon!

Thats looking good. cant wait to see it finished

Thanks! Yeah I'm getting really excited, I'm getting close to finishing it! But I have noticed that sanding may take some time to get perfect.

Also do I have to reapply Bondo if some of the paper is showing? Like on the wrist guard on the right?

Thanks!

no. but you should primer it, and see if the surface has any imperfections there
just fill the imperfections after the primer :)

Thanks for the tip! Ill make sure I do that if this rain stops. If anyone sees me doing anything wrong please let me know or if you have any other tips for me that would be awesome. This is the first time I'm working with Bondo and welcome any and all advice!

Well, since you asked, it looks like you put the bondo on pretty thick. It will cure still but you loose a lot of the details in the pep. My advise would be to use thinner coats and build up little by little. This way you keep the details without having to re-sculpt them.

Thanks I will try that on the next piece and let you know how it works out!

this is coming along great! cant wait to see it finished.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the advice, if anyone else has some please let me know. Again I'm new to all of this and love to learn the correct/better way of doing it. I really want this to come out looking really nice!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one!

Here is a small update and a question. I got a few more pieces Bondoed and I did notice that using less was a lot better thanks again for that tip! Here is a pic of what i got done today.

As for my question, what are you guys using to fill in the little holes left in the piece after sanding? I tried putting another layer of bondo but they seem to just appeared in different places. Here is a pic of what I'm talking about.

I circled the holes I'm talking in the lower half for the shoulder as I did not sand the upper part in this pic. I tried to just sand them out but then it leaves a small divot in its place.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one!

Use bondo glazing and spot putty. Air dries in about 15 minutes. Great stuff for filling littles holes.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one!

Thanks! I will go pick some up tomorrow!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one!

those are too big for a spot putty (ONLY use a 1 part spot putty for pinholes). You have to still use regular filler and use a "block" for those spots. You have to use a better filler IMO. Go find an auto supply place and look for 'Evercoat Lite Weight' body filler (that's the name, and it's $20 for a gallon and get a blue hardener). Also get a dark gray primer to "mist" the surface before you sand the areas to identify spots.

Thank you sir, I will definitely look in to that! Before I read that I did pick up some spot putty though. I will try it on the small pinholes and see how it works out.

Again thanks for the tips! I appreciate them a lot!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI Build........Yep another one!

Also, from the pics you posted it looks like you have too much 'texture' left when applying the bondo. You should smooth out the bondo while applying it. If you start with a smooth surface then you have to do a lot less sanding and there will be a lot fewer pinholes in your work. If your bondo starts to get 'clumpy' then you should not use it anymore. If you didn't have enough time to work with it then you are either using too much hardener or you are mixing too much bondo at once.

Once you get it pretty smooth a filler primer does a good job at covering the smallest imperfections on the surface.

You are exactly right. I started sanding them and that texture is causing a lot more work. I'm still learning and hopefully by the time I do the helm ill have it right! Thanks again everyone for the tips and input! Its really helping me out!

Looks great man. You are in sanding hell right now but keep it up. If you don't already have one grab a mouse sander. Makes the job a 100xs easier
