Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam). !!UPDATE SUIT FINISHED!!! 26.1.15

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version)

Thank you :) Jjaysavaloi. Foam is great. I think if you are good you can also add the high details as whe you work with pepakura and bondo. And you dont need all this Coatings and sanding work :)

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version)

I use 10 mm thick foam for everythink but its an special foam :) normally if you use EVA foam use 7 mm thick foam matts. :) And thank you Jersy

Awesome work!

But I've noticed in alot of finished suits that people have been doing those 2 creases down the center of the abs? Is that just how the pep file is? Because I don't see them on the actual suit.

At some pics you can see these lines and on other pics not I am not shure but I think they look good so I applied them :)

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version) Update on ABS !!

I'd love to see some in-progress shots of a part being made up - rather than from flat cut outs to whole object. I'm insanely interested in it being fit together. :D

Can you do making-progress pictures too next time?

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version) ABS started !!!

I guess the scaled versions are different.

Sometimes in the movie you can also see these lines :) But who cares haha if you like these lines make them if not , not thats the positive think about building something yourself :D

Yeah but it's very subtle. I was just wondering. It looks pretty cool though!

Thanks man. Yeah but at some points in the movie these lines are definitely there :D

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version) Update on ABS !!

Hi Max,

keep up the great work. I really enjoy your WIP and it is one of my favourite threads that really caught my eye. I´m new here and just started to get interested in building my own suit because of an injury I got from sport (torn ACL). While I was watching a lot of movies lately cause by the immobility I was searching for a new hobby and while watching the IM movies and the Avengers it came to me. I want to do this so badly.

I am happy to got to this forum and so see so many people with so much passion. You guys are all amazing. Of course I need to read a lot and a lot first before I can even start, but I hope that maybe I can write you one or two messages in case of needed advise. As I´m from Germany as well maybe you could give me a good tip where to find the right materials starting from foam over cutter and so on.

Keep it up, man! I look forward to many more updates to come!

Cheers/ Lex

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version) Update on ABS !!

That's some good looking stuff Max. I'm working on my first pep helmet for my kids but hopefully I learn some things doing it so I can move on to making a foam suit after. I'll definitely keep an eye out on your progress to get an idea of what mine should look like. What foam files did you use if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Iron Man Mark 42 (Foam Version) Update on ABS !!

Quick question. How are you gonna join the pieces together? Rivets? Thats one of the biggest mysteries to me. I can see myself building a whole suit but I have no idea of how I would get the pieces on me and keep them on without a piece like the bicep falling down or something.

On mine, I wanted the creases there, but for them to be very subtle. Just a slight bend, rather than a line. But I cut the score marks too deeply, apparently, so they're very visible. I decided I don't care :) Then, when putting on the abs (which I sized to fit my torso very close) as they pulled slightly, the lines became more pronounced when pulling against the glue.
