IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P. Updates

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

just seen this post... if you build all suits and the light up floor and ceiling to display them i be really impressed... as for the HUD and machine to assemble that i think is wishful thinking. the machine to assemble it doesnt exist even in the films its just cgi or little drills etc filmed in isolation and what exactly would the HUD display?? date and time?

build the suits and the display room..that will be awesome enough :)

This is a little bit off topic but worth sharing. I was as Fandays con and was able to meet Stan Lee, he signed my Iron Man Helmet, and I was also able to take pics.

This is my "Iron Woman" Concept that will be made into armor. I don't mind people using the design, just PM me and I will tell you what I ask of first. Stay tuned for a lot of updates!

that's good ta hear JT, it takes some dedication ta th' craft ta see it through keep up th' good work.:popcorn:cool:D

I'm almost half way through my suit. I'm using half inch foam (http://www.rainydaymagazine.com/RDM2012/RainyDaySports/HeavyBag/Mat/PushupFistBig.jpg) and it is a pain to cut out, but joins easily with hot glue. Where did you get the foam you use?

Like you, after mine is built I would like to create a system to help me put the suit on and take it off. I have helped my friend put his on and it is a pain!!! I like the large foot-locker comic idea and may look into building that. I'm eager to see what you build!

Cool. I get mine at Hobby Lobby. Do you have a thread on your suit?

No, I don't have a thread on my suit. I probably should start one so people can offer constructive criticism. Did you get the 6mm foam ($1.49) sheets? And did you use Doc's method of sealing/hardening/painting your foam?

No I use 3mm for 99¢.
I was planning tout I created my own method mixed with his to make it work for me.

Interesting...is it strong enough to stand up to the wear and tear? And how do you get angled cuts with such thin foam? I've looked for ways to cut 45 degree angles from thin foam, but never found a good way--any good tips? I'm making mine out of the floor mat foam so it gives great angles.

I use cereal boxes on the inside where the foam is to weak. If done everywhere in the suit, it actually starts to be hard almost as resin would make it. I use scissors and cut it at an angle, practice on a few scrap sheets. Make sure if you want a 90 degree angle, cut both pieces you are glueing together, if you are doing 45 degrees only cut on piece. If you plan to do the cereal box technique make sure you do it before you paint, then it helps smooth the foam, keep it's shape, and reduces cracks and makes it durable.

Congrats on meetin' th' boss and gettin' your helmet signed. :D:thumbup:
