Iron man 3 Mk39 Gemini sub orbital suit <pep files are done> WIP

After 2 hours:

I once said in someone's thread, using superglue for pepakura is not recommended.
Well, I was wrong!!!!
However, i used thicker cardboard, instead of stock card.
I don't use the flaps, so let's call it speed-building-pepakura style :cool

I am planning to mix it with the foam, especially for the sides.

Anyone consider doing the faceplate like you would a Daft Punk helmet? Form it from a clear plastic and use motorcycle tint to add the gold tint?

I think that could work best, and provide additional vision for the wearer.

Just an idea.

Anyone try to attempt this? I think it is a viable solution and will provide the wearer maximum visibility.

It's vacuum-formed. Although the machine can be made pretty cheap, I am still not into it.
It is best for mass-production. Actually the whole helmet can be made thru this method.
It is very visible.
However, I still can't find gold tinted film (I wanna use it for TASM lens).

Thanks whiteraven

Not sure if this is what your after but you can get gold tint for windows this ebay seller seems to sell them in small sheets, you should be able to get things like that from car parts store.

GOLD SOLAR REFLECTIVE ONE WAY MIRROR WINDOW FILM TINT | eBay

Hope that's of some help.

RemyD4U,
Thank you

Jynxx,
Thank you. One more thing that I remember, can window film be heated then stretched, for vacuum forming process?
I am not very familiar with that. Or applied it afterward?

I am pretty satisfied with the build so far.
It is actually quite sturdy.

The ear, intake above the ear and jaw will be added by using foam (that's why I call this hybrid)

I am still thinking about alternative to fiberglass, but definitely using resin still.
I hate FB.
I hate sanding, but applying putty is a must.
I'd probably end up buying a dremel I guess.

Hiya again, been giving this some thought and looked into it as much as i could, even looked into how the space suit had a gold visor lol.

Here's a link to how someone did a motorcycle visor for you to have a look at.

HOW TO: Make Your Own Tinted Visor! - Bike Chat Forums

But while i was looking through things i stumbled across this on youtube.

How to tint helmet visor - YouTube

Got me thinking could you not do the same but with a yellow liquid dye?

The dye you can buy from amazon (not sure where else you can get it from)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Impex-Rit-P...qid=1366897287&sr=8-1&keywords=rit+dye+yellow

Hope that helps :)

Jynxx,
thank you for the very helpful info.
I think I'll look into gold window film harder. I never bought things over internet (except once).
Seems like it's the way to go. I have another option using my old PWMF, same technique as my TASM lens, a bit different set up for LED.

BSD,
thank you (for hating me?) :lol

Does anybody have that children suits of armour? The should be 24 pages with lots of armours.
I don't have ipad to start with.
I really like Igor, stealth and I want to see more of it.

I wanna make another model, when I have front, side and back view.

Ugh sorry man lol Hat lol I do not hate anyone one here... Love this site! Good work and very fast as well

No problem,
I knew something was not right in the sentence LOL.

I finished the upgrade of the pep files, I called it v3.
Thanks to omarbou1, I also made a new handplate based on mk42 with a little bit of adjustment.

just in case you need more detail. a new android marketplace iron man 3 app is out.
im sure someone could scour the install files for the 3d models of all the suits.

I'm still waiting for someone to post front, side and back (from head to toe).
Once I have that (it doesn't matter for low poly), I can start adding "foo-foo" dust to it.

Anybody got the children book "suits of armor"?

Cod is temporarily taped.
Without the hips, it really looks like bikini's bottom.

I was afraid that it won't fit, so I changed the scale a bit bigger.
It turned out it is a bit bigger.
I probably keep it.
Next is hip

Discussion on doing a one way visible vacuum formed faceplate reminds me of this:

When My Brain Leaks, the Drops Drip Here.: Building Agent Maine (aka "the Meta") from Red vs. Blue Part 1: the Helmet

Seems to work pretty well, but curious exactly how well it would work for the space suit helmet.

Also note Rit Dye has appeared to have fallen out of popularity as a plastic dye, I've heard about quite a few problems with it. iDye Poly looks nice, and I hear Joann's has those in stock, if you want to check.

Will be watching this thread closely, planning on doing a Gemini suit unless I spot something cooler at the movies :]

I love you... I will be building a full suit using your foam pep files! This is my absolute favorite Iron Man suit!

Cod and hips are (almost) done.

Faceplate is secured to the helmet, for resin and FB later.
I cut the lower chin a bit, so my head can actually go in, without the back plate being separate.
...must ....add.....foam

I already cut the shoulders and jetpack!!!
