Instructions for Rylo Logan's Run DS gun?

I've managed to acquire one of the DS guns made by Rylo/Palmetto EFX lo those many moons ago. However, it's never been assembled, the wire from the battery isn't attached, and in fact it has no battery.

Does anyone have or is anyone aware of any instructions for this piece, whether written, video or whatever? Given its mechanism of operation I want to respect its design and manner of intended use in order to ensure both safety and longevity - and of course to get it working so it can blow my mind given its status as the "Apex Replica," on my personal list.

The simple net is that I want to know as much as I can about it from owners or folks who've actually used it. More specifically I need to know what battery it takes and how to insert it, how to wire it for power using the included wiring and connector, how to use the included felt squares, which I'm guessing are filters to prevent spent CC powder from entering the valve and clogging it, and the like.

I'm also not clear on the "magic formula," of CC to water to best charge it, or how best to deal with the tank once it's loaded as I'm guessing the pressure builds quickly once the reaction starts, which could make getting the cap on tricky. And, of course, any practical "watch-outs," tips, tricks, etc. from owners would be helpful.

The piece itself is in excellent condition, hasn't been assembled, the O-rings are pristine, and I don't believe the tank has ever even been screwed into place. Starting from that, and with the goal of blowing my mind rather than blowing up my house, any advice, instructions, and tips would be immensely appreciated.

That said, I have a solid understanding of the chemistry, the design, and all of the theoretical stuff. What I need is practical advice for using it as intended.

Finally, to hopefully keep things focused on that practicality, I am very aware that this thing can be downright dangerous, so I don't need information of that nature unless it's part of something specific I can do to minimize the danger (apart from anything along the lines of deciding to appreciate it as a static piece, not firing it at all, etc., which I've already considered).

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you have managed to find any information your posting, but here is a youtube video I found:
.
I guess you add a small amount of water to the CC which is already in the gas chamber.
.
The cap looks to be partially screwed in first, then add water using a syringe through the small hole,
then tighten the cap with an o-ring.
Is your prop an unpainted, un-assembled kit?
Post some pic's of the parts.

Thanks for this.

I think I may have found this video, as the static picture appears the same, but I had no luck getting it to load/play. I also can’t get it to load via the embedded link in your post, but it definitely suggests I’m on the right track, so it’s much appreciated.

The gun is painted and assembled, except for the reaction chamber, and came with a baggie including the felt squares, a syringe, the wire and connector, some spare O-rings, and a couple of small pieces of paper with partial instructions non-relevant to what I need.

From looking at it, I’m guessing I could simply disassemble the side panel to gain access to the battery compartment, which itself may make evident which battery I need. It even appears that if I were to apply enough force at the right angle it might pop off, but that’s a risk I’m not willing to take without knowing how it’s assembled.

It’s such an amazing piece and I am so pleased to have found it so long after I gave up my search for it that I want to make sure I don’t compromise its operation.

An advantage I start with is that I’ve built and flown radio controlled aircraft since I was 12, and the heat source is almost certainly a short size model engine glow plug, so I can guess at least the voltage required from that, but again it would be nice to be sure I’m using it exactly as intended.

I will take some pictures and post them later today when I've put some work in the rearview mirror.

I have read that it does use a glow plug and the switch would be used to open the contact between the plug and the battery.
The switch would be activated just prior to pressing the trigger which will then open the gas valve to allow the gas to be released through
the nozzle.
Looking forward to the pics. :)

The hole in the cap is so that you can use a syringe to add the water to the gas chamber and then quickly thread it in the remainder
of the way.
Yes, that prop really looks nice.

Apparently this video is no longer available for public viewing.

Looking at the plastic bag in your photo, the partial sticker showing looks like the same logo where the video was created.
.
Well, it looks like you are on your own to figure out where to go from here.

There is this video however:

Thanks folks.

I've found some info and also a good source, so I'll work with those and report back after I've had some time to really go over it - hopefully with a new video of this beauty in action!

Did you ever contact Rylo as suggested above to get information?

I didn't because I figure he's probably answered more than his share of questions about it over the years.

Thanks to all for the input. At this point what I have should be sufficient, so as soon as I've gotten this thing operational I'll get that video up.

Feeling like a kid before Christmas ever since this thing showed up.

I can help!

1. Roll up one piece of the red felt and fit inside the breech of the prop.
2. Making sure that the o-ring is around the narrowed nozzle end of the gas chamber is present and in good condition, screw the chamber onto the DS gun. DO not over tighten, but just pooch the o-ring.
3. With the cap off put in the water; using a syringe makes this easy. About 1.5 - 2 cc of water (I use distilled) are plenty to go into the back chamber.
4. Now, the tricky part...I use pea size carbide and place 2-3 small pieces into the recessed part of the gas chamber cap. Quickly turn this cap into place and screw on the cap. The carbide pieces will fall into the wet chamber and IMMEDIATELY begin making acetylene gas. Making sure not to cross thread, make all haste in securing this cap or face the dreaded bubble over!
5. Put the toggle switch forward and blast some runners! I usually get 6-8 good shots out of a mix and shaking the prop will agitate the mixture to make sure all carbide is mixed sometime get an extra shot or two.

If your battery is indeed not installed yet, one lead goes to the glow plug up front and the other grounds to the frame inside the grips. Mine uses two AAA batteries. Leaving your glow plug on will fairly quickly drain these, so be aware.

I hope this helps and is understandable. My DS guns are among my most prized possessions.

Hi, folks.

Forgive the thread necromancy, but I wanted to pop in to say thanks to everyone who helped/contributed/responded both here in the thread and elsewhere.

The simple net is that the prop works like a champ. In fact, not only does it work, but it somehow manages to be even cooler in person than on film or Youtube. I didn't film the test shots, as in addition to not having a free hand I didn't want to inadvertently create a video of myself on fire, which although amusing would be contrary to the purpose of the test. I'll get a video up as soon as I figure out how.

Although I did not catch fire, I did giggle like a 10 year old schoolgirl, which is a whole other reason I'm glad I wasn't filming.

Having now used it the prop seems quite robust, and the design such that if properly and sensibly used and respected, plenty safe as well. All the chemicals and flammable materials stayed just where they were meant to be, and the prop produced a number of characteristic starbursts as I worked the trigger - much, I imagine, like a lab rat pressing a button wired to provide direct electrical stimulation to the pleasure centers of my brain.

I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Video will come at some point, but if you want a preview watch the video of that shirtless guy shooting his. I won't be taking my shirt off as that would be bad for everyone, but I do now recognize the characteristic grin and from whence it comes.

If you manage to get a video of it firing, post it when you can.
Also, if you have a youtube account to host it, that would be the simplest.

So would sell a lot of body parts to get one of these but there's no way this would pass through UK customs.
