LOL......sadly NO......old enough to have watched the show on TV at the time it was aired hereAre you under 30?
I'll have to see how my stash of calcium carbide has held up. Last time I checked a lot of it had turned to dust. Didn't realize it degrades over time. I thought I had it sealed up pretty good.
I think with the plate on the leak in the valve is allowing the gas to accumulate in the cavity. With the plate off, the gas just dissipates and can’t ignite.Ok here’s the follow up. Rich and I did some test fires with the cover plate on and off. With the plate off, the gun functions normally. With the plate on, it backfires. We think we need to seal the area around the tube where the gas is being expelled.
Excellent point. But how does it ignite?I think with the plate on the leak in the valve is allowing the gas to accumulate in the cavity. With the plate off, the gas just dissipates and can’t ignite.
The ignition is quite violent. It’s possible under such pressure, some of the flame is forced backwards down the barrel and into the handle.Excellent point. But how does it ignite?
We agree, so first thing Richard is going to try is sealing that area off betterThe ignition is quite violent. It’s possible under such pressure, some of the flame is forced backwards down the barrel and into the handle.
Just a thought.
I was a young’un when I lurked/joined, mid twenties. lolOMG, you have an amazing memory! Thank you so much - I really appreciate that!!! All my best
Yeah with out Cliff and Nikki the RPF probably would not exist today!Wow, I haven’t seen Cliff post in a looong time. M-Pire i used to drool over pics of your ANH Kenobi saber back in the day, and thanks for keeping the RPF afloat along with Nikki.
Hope you're well!!!!!Thank you so much, Apollo! You guys really are THE BEST!!!
Apologies to the OP JediDunn for the slight hijack; but I really enjoyed hearing from everyone here and in messages.
I was able to flatten two sides of the double-threaded brass connector with the two o-rings and the gas tube with my dremel, and then I was able to use a box wrench to break it free from the firing chamber. My calcium carbide was still in good shape, not sure why, and so I did a test fire after cleaning the filter and so far so good, no leaks for me, but I will continue watching this thread for more info and insight. Best of luck to you, JediDunn!
Cheers!

I hope you used heat resistant paint on it.Just wanted to circle back and report gun is fixed! Richard Coyle determined flame was traveling back into the gun through holes around the barrel tube. He used a flame resistant material to pack off that area and that solved it. I also gave the gun a fresh paint job.
They have long since been retiredWould love ot get my hand on one of those if they are still available
