Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

By all means, he's not a friend of mine.
It's merely a professional contact. I keep a big book with contact information from Dutch writers, artists, actors, politicians and other people I might want to give a ring as a journalist.

Before I contact him, I'll see what I can do myself. Let me just read that screencap you're talking about.

Chronicles II 5:1 to 5:14, that's it.
I'll try to get a scan, and I think I even found where the illustration came from.
Looks like the same artist, no?

Uh ... You guys know Ralph McQuarrie is the one who drew the picture of the Hebrews with the Ark in the Raiders bible, right?

RMcQ

He sells large prints of the illustration, too.

Soooo, why hasn't anyone told me that before I started calling archives and collectors. :D
Anyhoe, thanks for the input.

Now we just have to wait for the scan of the left page.

A few weeks ago I've been working on a new project, Marion Ravenwood's cigarettes package in Raiders. We all know that she uses an Imco lighter, but had never done any research on the smokies. Not surprisingly though, since it can be seen only in a very blurry couple of scenes in the sequence of the Bar, besides her lighter.

Fortunately, I was able to get an original package and I made some high resolution scans, make some digital cleanning process and build some templates that I can offer you in the thread. Click on the images. The images are VERY large. And watermarkless :thumbsup
Barnett

As usual, fantastic work Barnett (y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup

Oops, my mistake.
The right side is a mix and doens't really add up.
For instance, the illustration relates to Exodus. The two pages are not from the same bible, the right page is probably made up so it's more appealing to the eye. I'll see what I can find.

They had McQuarrie's original artwork of the ark piece on display at Celebration V. IIRC, the information tag they had displayed next to it said that the scripture reference at the bottom of the page doesn't really say anything, Ralph "made it up" for the print.

Yep. The caption underneath is pure gibberish. :)

It's definitely not gibberish.
This is what is says in Dutch:

Plagenvan- Rer. II Boeck MOSIS. Cap viii. -Egypte- Vrs. 28
Exod. RY Ye & C. Ark de Verbonde en wolck bedeck der korete en Godts heerlickhoyt.

English:

Plagues of- Rer. II Book MOSES. Chap. viii. -Egypt- Vrs. 28
Exod. RY Ye & C. Ark of Convenant and cloud cover the Corinthians and God's glory.

Proper sentences:

Plagues of Egypt. II Book of MOSES, chapter viii, Verse 28
Exodus: Ark of Convenant and cloud cover the Corinthians and God's Glory.

Hi there RickDeg

Where did you come across the text at the top of the picture (Plagenvan- Rer. II Boeck MOSIS. Cap viii. -Egypte- Vrs. 28)? I don't see any text in the movie or on any Ralph McQuarrie print.

Thanks., barneyrfd

@ Barnett:

Thanks for the link to your Flickr Site. So much good Paper Props.
Espc. the Eu-de-Vie Label. I sought long after that.

Because the screen shot only has the picture, and not even all of it.

RickDeG nailed it. The actual movie screen shot is 2 Chronicles 5. I copied the relevant section from an 1817 Dutch bible (thanks, Google Books!) I may not have transcribed it exactly as I don't know Dutch, but compare to Sith Sheriff Brody's screen grab

HET 5. CAPITTEL.

[ende] Leviten opwaarts.
6 De Koning Salomo nu/ ende de
gantsche vergaderinge Israels/ die bij

7 Alzoo bragten de Priesters de Arke
des verbonds des HEEREN tot hare
plaatse, tot de Aanspraakplaatse van
het Huis, tot het Heilige der heiligen:
tot onder de vleugelen der Cherubim.

Now if Darth Saber's pages from the old ebay auction are for the screen used bible and not the one shown in the trading card, maybe things will shake out.

So, I got my print and decided to weather it a bit.
I know many people like to use coffee or tea, but frankly hate sitting in the kitchen making a pot of coffee, waiting for it to cool, creating a mess , and then hoping the coffee is black enough to stain without having to go over the map again and again and again.

DS

Do you have any opinions or experience with the long term effects of coffee staining? As an acidic substance I'm wondering how quickly it will damage the paper. I'm doing a middle earth map so a little additional damage down the road is no big deal, on the other hand I'd hate to see it totally crumble in a few years.
