Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Well, I didn't find the actual "page"...I found the text that is on the page, from another source.

If you look at the closeup shot of the trading card image, and the image used on the Indiana Jones calendar (Which feature the same bible page) you'll notice that some of the words can be made out.
Specifically in verses 14-17.
Such as "Vergaderdan", the name of Moses' brother "Aaron", "Egyptland"

I merely found a website that has several translated versions of the bible, found the Dutch version, and then looked through verses 14-17 of all the chapters of Exodus to see if there were any word matches.

The one that matches is Exodus 8.

Although Exodus 8 doesn't talk about the Ark, it does talk about supernatural disasters, plagues, wrath of god that would befall the Egyptians. (Which does fit into the type of supernatural destruction that would result from the Ark).

Im kind of juggling several projects at once, so I don't know when Ill have the layout for the text done, but if you guys want to try replicating the text yourselves, heres a link to the dutch Exodux page -
Dutch Bible - Exodus 8

And the German page -
Luther Bibel - Exodus 8

Indeed. But the caption under the photo says Exodus Chapter 27:61... Which doesn't exist! :lol

Yeah, Kramstaar's weathering looks great. Looks like he stuck it in an oven or ironed it maybe. (Although I think heat may screw up a laser print)

Looks like a very careful oven job to me. I've aged laser prints in the oven before without a problem, you just have to make sure that the printed material doesn't touch anything or else it can come off.

Moviefreak, go ahead and give further aging a shot! If you screw up I'll give you another page at cost. :)

Thanks for the offer. I just might try it then. Your aging looks great, but I want to further it a bit to make it look like it was ripped out and tossed around for years.

What is the best method to use the oven? Just bake it? or should I put it under the broiler and watch it carefully?

:) Ya, I don't age my docs too much so that if someone wants them worse they can do it but if someone wants it to just look old and not beaten they can leave it as is.

When I do the oven thing I lay the page on a clean baking sheet on broil and watch it like a hawk. The best part about the oven method is that it makes the page very brittle so you can have the cracks and chips like KramStaar's page.

Your page will be much darker than his though because it already has coffee staining.

Looks like the header text says "Der V. Capitel."

Good eye, sheriff.
I also noticed use of the word Solomo (king Solomon), Jerusalem , Zion, ark.
I believe the book of Kings speaks about king Solomon building a temple for the ark. Might be a good place to start looking.

Anyhow I went ahead and made another option for the text. I used the 1st book of Samuel and used chapter 4-5.
This seems to be the only place in the bible that tells of the ark destroying cities, causing disasters and smiting armies of thousands (even mentions a guy who looked inside the ark and dropped dead.)
I didn't put the name of Samuel on the page though. I kept it exodus 27....when something doesn't fit canon....force it to fit. Lol.
I'm going to the printers soon, I'll post pics when I'm done.

Btw, thanks for the font options, sheriff.

You're welcome :)

"The Bible speaks of the Ark leveling mountains and laying waste to entire regions..."

So, I got my print and decided to weather it a bit.
I know many people like to use coffee or tea, but frankly hate sitting in the kitchen making a pot of coffee, waiting for it to cool, creating a mess , and then hoping the coffee is black enough to stain without having to go over the map again and again and again.
What I usually do is use Windsor and Newton's caligraphy ink.
I buy two small jars, one is sepia, and one is Ochre Yellow (It's not actually yellow, it's more of a dirty orangish rust color).
I get an empty jar, pour a little bit of each ink into the jar, and then thin it out with water.
It takes little bit of trial and error to get the right color and consistency, but once you have the right mix, you can save your jar of weathering ink for future projects.
I then use a small artist's sponge, and dab the ink on the bible page.

Here are both versions of the final print -

Thanks for all the help guys!

INDIANA JONES - Chachapoyan Map ... with a twist - in 3D

While browsing a little today I rediscovered those great 'Magic Eye' images that years ago were the cause of some of my myopia today.

I decided to have a go at creating some of my own, and I guess the Chachapoyan Map was as good a place to start as any

I made 3 versions, and uploaded them at the link further down.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, here are the 'instructions' :

1) Open the link

2) Right-click, save each image to your desk-top.

3) Open (one at a time) in viewer.

4) Enlarge till the widest edge fits your pc screen.

5) Stick your nose around 4/5 inches away from your monitor.

6) Look at one particular point, but do NOT try to focus.

7) Once your eyes ask you what on earth you are doing, give up waiting for a reply, and relax, you will see that the image slowly starts to 'come into focus' on its own.

8 ) Once this happens, SLOWLY withdraw your head from the monitor, WITHOUT trying to focus or loose the initial point you were looking at.

9) Once your head is around a foot/foot and a half or so from the monitor, the hidden image will pop out !

10) You may then, without trying to focus, move your eyes around the image & 'have a look around'

If its the first time you're trying this, it takes some time and 'practice', but don't give up

Hope you enjoy guys :)

Here's the link :

PS - Just to be sure, so nobody feels like a twit :confused, do NOT try and do this procedure on the first image ... that's just the map as we know it, nothing hidden within

very cool.

I see the 2nd picture very well, and while I get the 3-D images of the 1st and 3rd, I am not sure what I am looking at.

Very well done.... I would love to know how you did that.

A few weeks ago I've been working on a new project, Marion Ravenwood's cigarettes package in Raiders. We all know that she uses an Imco lighter, but had never done any research on the smokies. Not surprisingly though, since it can be seen only in a very blurry couple of scenes in the sequence of the Bar, besides her lighter.

Fortunately, I was able to get an original package and I made some high resolution scans, make some digital cleanning process and build some templates that I can offer you in the thread. Click on the images. The images are VERY large. And watermarkless :thumbsup

Not much else to add. Images must be folded by the lines, and printed on thin white cardboard.
The front of the package from the folding measures 82 mm x 72 mm. Anyone using Photoshop can print images as they are and you'll get a printout with accurate measurements.

Hope you enjoy it. Comments will be appreciated.

Darth Saber and others,

I've found a Dutch researcher and collector who specializes in Dutch bibles.
Should I ask him about the illustration? Or is there anything else I can ask him to help you out?

Thanks Rick,

Don't know if your friend can help but on the previous page of this thread (post 146) Sith Sheriff Brody posted a screencap of the bible page from the movie (the color image on the left). Would it be possible for your friend to read the text on the left page and possibly figure out which specific part of the bible it's from?

If he can identify the page on the left, then maybe he can take a hi-res pic of the page on the right.

A few months back some guy was on Ebay selling the EXACT bible from Raiders ($$$$) and I requested some info, but never heard back from him.
(BTW, I managed to get reference photos from his auction , if anyone is interested)
Maybe your friend can help?

THanks again.
