Indiana Jones 5 officially announced

CGI -

I agree it's annoying. But I can't say it's out of spirit with the originals. If CGI was around in the 1980s they would have used the hell out of it. And I guarantee you there were people complaining about all the obvious blue-screen shots in those.

It's one of those nuked fridge things. The new stunt is not really any goofier than the originals, it's just that our expectations have changed.

De-aging -

This movie may work as a case study in SFX priorties.

The Harrison Ford de-aging shots will look amazing. Meanwhile that first shot of (old) Harrison on the horse in the parade, it looked like a really clumsy pasted-on face. A lof of this movie was filmed with doubles and you can bet there will be some cringey work there. Because of course there will be.

Cheesy title -

Same principle.

Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Temple of Doom. The Last Crusade. A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back. The Phantom Menance. Lucasfilm's retro serial movie titles were always like this. The only ones that aren't utterly cheesy are generic.

Marion -

My guess is that Marion is dead. I assume that in the early stages of this movie, they intended to make Indy a poor lonely old man so they could kill him off (or some other BS retconning with time travel) at the end. Cooler heads may prevail when it comes to the ending but the movie was already too far along that track. So "little things" like Marion being dead will remain.

Just a typical problem caused by filming movies without a script and wrecking legacy characters for short-term gains.

I'm guessing Harrison went along with this stuff because he's an actor, not a fan. These aren't his favorite movies to sit at home & watch. Giving the Indy character a few more curveballs in life, it gives the actor a meatier role to work with this time. It's shades of Han & Luke in the SW sequels. You can bet Harrison liked his acting role in 'Force Awakens' a lot more than ANH or ROTJ.

Cool about the airplane. I just thought it was a small reference to Ford’s other famous role since the shot looked like it.

Yeah, Im just going with the stance of wait and see with very tempered expectations. Disney and modern movies really havent been interesting and if you go with very low expectations, you get a nice surprise if the movie is decent.

The whip does look fake and the everyone pulling out their guns feels a little more slapstick comedy akin to Crystal Skull over the originals (there was humor but I felt it was more a result of crazy circumstances) but could just be one scene.

Honestly, I do think they should have just left it with 4. While I dont like the movie, it ends happily with Indy marrying Marion, another archeological find, and finally a family. Leave the old man be. While there may be complaints of CGI, Ford is 80. He is older than Connery when he was playing the bumbling dad in last crusade. Hell, I wouldnt be surprised if all the action scenes were of another actor/stunt double doing everything with Ford’s face pasted on in post. I already disagree with 5 being made but if it is, at least be decent is all i ask.

It makes sense for Disney to go to the Indy well. Star Wars has been driven to the ground and is badly damaged. Marvel fatigue should be set cause seriously, can we get something other than superheroes now? Going adventure with Indy is something refreshing. I would prefer a mew IP though since I feel the story was already well told with 3 movies and I really dont trust Disney to be able to do the series justice.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will play out like The Force Awakens. Everyone will be on board because of the mixed reactions to Crystal Skull, and the promise of James Mangold directing plus the return of Nazis as the villains, at least in some capacity, but once it's out for a year or more, upon repeat viewing it won't hold up as well as people initially thought.

This trailer really did nothing for me.

But…but…didn’t you see??

He…he was wearing the outfit.

(OK, I promise that this will be my last gripe on this topic and I’ll shut up about a character wearing the exact same “adventure time outfit” at 80 that he wore at age 36…)

The one thing that The Mummy did better than Indiana Jones was to give Rick a specific “look” with variations of that look, over time, and thus created a somewhat more believable individual vs. a cartoon character…

I’m just going to imagine that Indiana’s closet must look like Charlie Brown’s, I guess; only with a little less color…

Seeing Harrison Ford as Indy will always do something for me...We are really going to miss him when he's gone. The trailer? Just weird

Alley...you are funny...but comparing those 2 protagonists is downright hilarious. I mean, Brendan Frasier and Harrison Ford.. Rick and Indy...He will never be even close to iconic as Indiana Jones no matter what he wears...but I agree with you, looks alone will never mean the writing is good or appropriate.

I watched the trailer a few times just to get something from it other than seeing Ford in the get up again...but I just couldn't. I feel like I didn't see the same trailer as some did because the de-aging and all the cgi just pulled me out of it. I thought the best "Old Indy" could look was in Crystal Skull, nevermind the film, but that was probably the last time Ford looked good and capable in the role. The CGI whip and how crisp and flat everything looked from what they showed kinda sucked the air out of me.

Oh, man. On one hand, Ford is just my guy and seeing him as Indy again is a treat despite my grumbling...But, man, this just ain't for me, chief. That's a great shame for me to have to say that about an Indy movie. It just feels so far removed from what Raiders and following films were based on.

I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of commentary on aging and the bittersweet passage of time, especially if the rumors are true. Indy feels like a fish out of water now (in 1969), past his prime, etc etc. I'm not so sure he'll necessarily die but I could see him "lost to time" or otherwise removed from present time to the point that his story is effectively over. Maybe back to the 30s when he was truly happy or something? Lol! I dunno...
I'm still sticking with what I said earlier. I agree that he may pull a Steve Rogers here. I def am picking up on somber undertones with the trailer although that could all be a red herring. I didn't find anything terribly offensive about the trailer but it could easily go either way with me.

As an aviation nut, it was neat to see the He-111 although did I spy a twin rudder arrangement at 00:24? If so (and if it's the same plane), the Siebel Si 204 is a possibility. Twin rudders, similar cockpit glazing to a 111 and no gun mount at the nose. Then again, the other shot from the front shows Jumo engines so I may be seeing things.
