Indiana Jones 5 officially announced

Giorgio has seen it.

Someone pointed out on Reddit that he's wearing a watch on his left arm. I'm curious what watch will soon become hard to find and/or super expensive once someone on here finds out the model. It looks gold and maybe a square face.

We did research on this over at COW from the set spy pics ages ago. Its probably a Hamilton Boulton.

Really, really not excited in the slightest for this film.

I've still never seen KotCS and I don't regret it. More is not necessarily better. Indiana Jones works perfectly as a trilogy where at the end, he literally rides off into the sunset.

The prospect of an octogenarian Indy trying to be played off as an action hero....no. Just...no. I know people in their 80s. Even if they're in the best shape an 80 year old could be in, it's just utterly unconvincing to try to think of them as action heroes.

James Mangold is a solid director, but I am really leery of just the basics of this film. "Indiana Jones, now 80 years old, goes on one final adventure." Is it final because he falls over, breaks his hip, and says "I'm getting too old for this s***"?

Murtaugh: Hey, Hey Riiiiiiiggggsss!!! I"m gonna die on a toilet, aren't I?

Riggs: "Guys like you don't die on toilets..." (thinking: they just stroke out on the toilet while trying to pass an All The Meats XL Super Cheese Filled Crust Pizza they shouldn't have been eating at that age. They die in the hospital.)

Murtaugh: I'm getting too old for this s***

Minor quibble -

The character Indy isn't 80 years old in this movie. He's about 69-70yo. Liam Neeson is that old now.

Indy & Harrison's ages were only ever close in 'Raiders'. During the 1980s Harrison kept getting older but Indy kept having more adventures in a narrow few (Nazi-filled) years. By the time they filmed 'Last Crusade' Indy was a good 10 years younger than Harrison.

In 'Crystal Skull' Indy would have been around 58 or so, and his onscreen action/athletics were definitely a notch more tame than in the 1980s movies. It was still implausible but not as crazy as it could have been (aside from the infamous fridge.) IIRC the new 5th movie is using a stunt double for Harrison who is like 53.

Well, then, I apologize. A 69 - 70 year old can totally kick Nazi butt and jump from tank to airplane to submarine and back again.

I didn’t realize that the character was so young still.

I'll just throw this out there, but when was the last time you guys saw Liam Neeson play an action hero well?

His best acting has always been in action/dramas and straight dramatic roles anyway.

Over the years I’ve really come to truly lament Crystal Skull, because exactly 1/3 of the film is actually really good. The second act doesn’t have pretty much anything silly, or inappropriate to Indy’s age, or bad effects, or poor script. It’s the opening sequence and the entire third act that drag that film down, which is really why the film is remembered so poorly. It’s like a reverse Rogue One. Everyone loves Rogue One because the third act is fun and memorable, but the rest of the movie is pretty boring in comparison. Crystal Skull would have been praised if it had stuck the landing the second act sets up, but it belly-flopped hard instead, leaving an extremely sour taste in many people’s mouths.

'Crystal Skull' delivered a really fun set of scenes revisiting some beloved characters much later in life. But the adventure that they huge it on was weak.

It wasn't even a bad adventure, just a mediocre one. I still think it would have measured up tolerably well if it had come out in the 1980s and not had to match the Indiana Jones reputation.

The Star Wars 'Solo' flick had the same issue. It would probably have been a well-liked hit if it had been released in 1975. Or even released in 1995 and not part of the SW franchise. It just couldn't withstand the expectations thrown at it.

Crazy spinoff idea ala Marvel-verse I’ve had for years…. Cast some charismatic young guys as Katanga and Jock going on cliff hanger adventures in the 30s. Captain Katanga seemed he walked on the dark side as much as Indy. Now we are back with a really fresh start right in the right era with the right kind of characters. Nobody will be bent about recasting. Why mustI I do the heavy lifting for studios? LOL

I don’t know what any of that meant, but it was still funny.

Dang, a Katanga-led series actually sounds really cool. Throw a solid lead in there, you could get a good mix of treasure hunting, smuggling, light espionage, romance. That would be a pretty cool show.

I did enjoy that scene in Darkman where he's forced to hold onto those electrodes and when he flies out of the building on fire. That was some great action acting on Liam's part!

Yes, it was right up there with Hayden Christensen's best acting, which was on Mustafar on fire after he lost due the laws of Force physics decreeing that even a Chosen One Master of the Force always loses when the other guy (who was knocked out in 5 seconds flat by Count Dooku whom Anakin readily defeated) HAS THE HIGH GROUND!

That Jedi stuff on Cato Neimoidia...that...that doesn't count. (I can suddenly hear someone in Jabba's palace screaming, "Puny Jedi! Puny Jedi!") :D
