Indiana Jones 5 officially announced

ANCESTRY/DNA
(GODDAUGHTER EDITION)
by Disney

...because every hero needs one ...even if you've forgotten you had one

This test does not guarantee any results( probability is much higher for British females). Even though you cannot technically DNA match a Goddaughter successful, it is important to realize that anyone can identify as your Goddaughter, especially if you are famous for let's say, finding the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail and have given up on life and need one to save you. We recuse ourselves from any and all liability due to cognitive decline. Dignity is non-returnable and time lost cannot be redeemed.
You owe me a bottle of Windex™ for the Pepsi I just spewed all over my monitor!!!

You're going to need a lot more than Windex to clean up that mess...oh, you weren't talking about the movie...in that case, let me offer you a bottle of

SPINDEX by Disney
...
because all our movies need some in order to make sense of them
...because a Hero in your eye's may not be the same in ours
...because it's easier to give a slight twist than to start from scratch...
...because we can justify it even if you can't

Indiana Jones is a hero. The loser who shows up in Dial of Destiny is simply not. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Apathy is not a virtue.

As an adult recently rewatching all of the films, I came to the conclusion Indy is not a hero. He occationally kills innocent people, is a jerk to others, does almost everything for selfish reasons, just not a good guy. But yknow, nostalgia and rose tinted glasses.

Er... who did Indy kill that was innocent? o_O

So these films became classics because Indy was a selfish murderer? Riiiight.....

It's a good thing an entire generation of audiences admired the guy enough to dress up like him and collect/ build props from his exploits. What does that say about us for enjoying him so much if he's that bad of a guy?

Immanuel Kant disagrees.

People dress up as Darth Vader...

Yet admirable people have fallen into despair, and will continue to do so because it is in human nature.

I've known too many veterans in real life, who caved to despair, who are now no longer with us, to make any moral judgement on it.

My stepfather was one of them. I watch action/adventure films to get away from that crap. Real life might be reflected in certain aspects of the story, but by and large, I don't want to be depressed by a popcorn movie. The point is that when you've got a series of four films whose tone is supposed to be lighthearted adventure, suddenly turn into a deconstructed character study on aging, and dying without your dignity, a lot of people are going to have a problem with that. This incessant need to take everything enjoyable about movies and turn them into reflections of the worst human traits is a drag. It doesn't matter if the visuals look pretty, or the familiarity of well loved characters is on full display, at the core of the thing, it's rotten.

People can enjoy whatever they want. I'm out.

That's the zeitgeist: deconstruct the hero/man, put down any of his action of the past/present and kick him while he's down

Sadly, irrelevant reviews is just something that people do these days, seemingly without even realizing that they're review is irrelevant. It's not just for movies, you see it all of the time on Amazon these days. I don't know how many times someone leaves a negative review for a given product that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual product. Delivery was late, bad review. Package was dinged, bad review, Poor customer service, bad review. Just like the complaints about the theater, this sort of thing tells me exactly nothing about the product or movie in question. If you have a complaint about something other than the product or movie, then post it elsewhere and not in the review section.

Speaking of irrelevant reviews, my wife one saw a review on Yelp for a local Mexican restaurant that used to be called Mayan Taco. and in that review some person complained that they didn't serve actual Mayan food. As if Mayan cuisine is a common thing in the US and tacos are a part of it. It's idiots like that who are posting all of the irrelevant and dumb reviews of things these days and are bringing down our collective IQs to boot.

Indy was never intended to be a perfect, flawless hero,” the character’s creator, George Lucas, would explain. “He bumbles quite a bit. He gets into dangerous situations, but not because he bravely looks for them. He falls into them headfirst, often because he leaps before he looks–or before he thinks."

If anything he's at least morally gray, not an idol of any kind. An exciting adventurer that kids can enjoy and want to emulate sure, but certainly no saint. I'm just saying on my recent rewatch i was surprised how much he came off as a jerk, and ive been watching these since the 80s.

I never claimed he was perfect.

Somehow about 6 or so years ago I became a Vine Voice on Amazon. So, I try to review items often.

I was reviewing a series of Doctor Who that I bought digitally from Amazon. The 13th Doctors 6 part Flux series and some guy gave THAT series a 1 star review stating that the new 15th Doctor is a gay actor which means that the Doctor will be gay, sleeping with Jack finally, etc.

Which was 2 years before he’d even hit the screen.

Simplified drivel from an even simpler mind.

Did you ever find out what his RPF name was?

If not, we could probably make some well-educated guesses.

LOL

I don’t typically read reviews. If it comes up in a news feed I might glance at it, but it’s not a habit of mine. I tend to find that I don’t care what other people think about a movie, show, book, or music. I watch, read or listen to things if they are something I like.
Right there with ya… there’s some movies people hate that I enjoy

Solo is a prim example, no joke

I have no problem publicly saying that today, but when it came out there was so much hate I was afraid to voice my support

The world we live in..

Solo is one of my favorite SW movies. Just a fun action, popcorn flick.
Sometimes, that's all we really need in a movie. Not everything needs to be this grand epic of a film that should at least be nominated for a Golden Globe and Oscar, if not win.

I have 4 categories of movies; those that look interesting enough that I want to see in the theater, those I'll just wait for Redbox, those I'll wait until hits streaming, and those I have 0 interest in watching at all. If I watch anything and I have no regrets having watched it through any of the 3 mans that I mentioned, then I'm happy, even if it wasn't a "perfect" movie. I don't care about flaws as long as I was entertained and didn't feel that I wasted my money and/or time.

Well said. I like those categories. I may adopt them myself.
