In Progress: Obi-Wan Kenobi Clone Wars

Yep, that's me at the Toys R US Midnight Clone Wars release. I have some better pictures from the Lucsfilm pavilion of me, my Anakin, and the Disney Star Wars Weekends Ahsoka, animated Rex, and animated Cody from Friday afternoon. Gotta get 'em from my friend first. I just got back a couple hours ago.

The costume went over really well. Being on stage with the Disney Ahsoka and no one scoffed. The armor beats up my arms and I need to make a new collar. But it all went swimmingly. I got upgrades planned and I don't think I'd ever want to wear it a slong as I did this weekend ever again. But I enjoyed my times posing with the kids.

Very awesome!!! your suit looks excellent! :)

Wish we had a toys r us here in Juneau, Alaska lol I could finally officially show off my Rex. I guess movie premiere night will be my time to shine lol

Post more pics if you got them?? :love

Thanks everybody.

I need to work on the neck seal before the premiere. It's a little too tall. Giving me a neck brace kind of look. And currently it's just taped to an old t-shirt. I'd like to find a better and more permanent solution beofre the 15th.

Chris you looked great at Comic Con. You guys fit right in when I saw you on the stage at the Clone Wars booth. Don't worry, you belonged up there. Nice to talk again at the RL photo shoot too.

Looking great! Is that one of the sabers I worked on? I'm going to have to get to a major con someday to see some of you that I know from online. Either that or you need to make it to Florida!

Dangit. Chris, I never actually got photos of you in the armor. The only ones I took were of you guys in Ep. 3. :(

Yeah that's the FX with the Crystal Focus board. I repainted it for Comicon and it worked great; super bright and super loud. The flicker looked great with the Erv style blade. Unfortunately the saber took a beating over the two days I carried it and ended up with a chip in the gold paint and missing the washer holding the recharge port.

I'll have to baby it at shorter events from now on.

Ok, I've started my list of upgrades:

1. New Collar

I made this one of out foam taped to a t-shirt in about an hour the night before the Con. Looks too much like a neck brace. It could be about a half inch to an inch shorter. I think I am going to try to remake the bib/dickie part in a white marine vinyl. Something heavier to resist wrinkling. Also I may try and glue it permanently to the chest armor in the front up to the shoulder peaks so it will always stay taught. Then have a velcro closure and flap in the back that will be covered by the back plate.

2. New Belt

My ROTS jedi belt was made to go over several layers of heavy tunics. With only spandex and one layer of osnaburg cotton underneath it's kinda loose. I'd like to make a new one that is stylized like the show. It would be a 2.25" wide main belt with the .5" wide inner belt glued directly to it. No rivets. It would be just long enough to fit around me and have a hidden side closure that would go under one of the pouches. I'd make a stylized buckle out of plastic.

3. New Tunics

I don't know if I'll actually do this since my current one works fine. But I had thought of redoing the tunic to be seamless. The body and skirt would be separate pieces and the waist seam would be hidden under the obi sash.

Possibly I may make a new obi sash with some pre-dyed brown cotton. Maybe with a crinkle for visual interest. The dye didn't take very well to my current one and it's blotchy. Also it gave off some dye rubbage onto my tunic.

4. New Legs

I reused my clone legs from my Microseries Clone Wars costume. They are wayyyyy too short. When I look at side shots especially. The TCW legs come up to the knee and then have that integrated knee extension. I have talked to a local clone armor maker and I think he's willing to take on the project and sculpt me some Obi-Wan specific legs based off my legs measurements.

Obviously, that won't be done in two weeks for the premiere. But I think I can get the belt and the collar done next week/weekend.

Woulda been awesome to see this armor in the prequels! :sleep

You look great man! Cant wait to see the upgrades. The collar is the only thing that stands out to me. But it still all looks really well made and functional! (y)thumbsup (Im so hoping the show and movie are gonna be great!)

...I never doubted ya for a second...

I doubted him. ;)

...but only for a second. :D

Looks like the handguards have a continuous curve across the back of the hand, rather than a single break, but it's hard for me to tell from the pix. Any thoughts on that?

And I know what you mean. I already have a "revision two" list going for Rahm Kota, and it's not even done yet. :unsure
