Immortan Joe costume from Mad Max, Fury Road

Patattack I have all the medals, just need the car emblems for the codpiece and the shin guards

I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about doing Joe's artificially-deepened voice. I've seen dedicated Darth Vader voice-changer circuit boards, but they're over $400, so that's not happening. On the other end of the spectrum, I could get a kids' voice changer toy for like $15, but that's gonna have awful sound quality.

As a possible alternative, I've found an Android app called RoboVox, which allows for real-time pitch shifting (with a tiny delay) if you use headphones/microphone. I'm wondering if it would be feasible to project that output over a cheap Bluetooth speaker that I could hide somewhere on my person. Question is, how can I keep the phone and speaker batteries from dying quickly? And where do I hide the speaker such that it's easily audible, but not visible (and not so close to the microphone that it causes feedback)?

I was thinking that the bellows behind the neck would be the most reasonable place to hide a speaker, but I worry that it'll sound weird coming from behind my head. I think my ideal would be hiding a tiny speaker in each of the little black air filters that come out around the neck (next to the hoses), but that's probably too cramped. Thoughts, anyone?

No reason why not. Easy to put speakers in those filters and use a big external battery ( on the back of the cod piece?) to power the phone and the speakers.

I found a $5 voice changer at a yard sale for exactly that reason. Might not be quite right, audio-wise, but I'm hoping I can mess with the acoustics in the baffles with a length of PVC pipe to work on the pitch and volume a bit.

Any ideas on what kind of speakers would be small enough to fit into the filters, decent enough sound quality, and capable of connecting to my phone via Bluetooth or headphone plug? (I'd love to have one speaker in each filter, but I don't think most Bluetooth devices will allow you to pair two at once to the same phone...) Or is the phone idea too complicated, and I should just follow Ein's lead and use a cheap voice changer? Would it be possible to wire new speakers to a voice changer so it doesn't sound so cheap...? I'm just brainstorming here!

I don't think you would need to have to big of speakers it's only for people close range. I just bought two blue tooth or auxiliary capable on wish and I think I actually only need 1.

Well, I'm thinking it has to be loud enough to mostly cover up my normal voice...and quality wise, you don't want it sounding all static-y like a Talkboy!

Ha! This is the second time in two days I found myself and someone else going down the exact same path.

In my case, I'm mounting a small microphone inside the mask, and in the bellows hiding batteries and speakers. The voice modulation I'm tweaking now, but hoping to accomplish with an Arduino, but I may upgrade the hardware.

Here a start for anyone interested. The Adafruit Wave Shield for Arduino.

When I'm done, I'll post how I did it and what I used. I'll share project details too. This may come a little later as I'm moving this weekend, but I'll circle back and let you know.

Though if I can find a way to mount them in my filters that might work far better.

As it is I have filters that are a little too big. Maybe I can look at that as an asset.

holy crap, that kit looks awesome, although it's all a bit over my head. can't wait to see how yours turns out!

Hey brothas so I don't have to scroll through this feed what was the phone keyboard on his chest. I already have the 6100

I'll walk everybody through it. I may actually go with a Rasberry Pi just to make it more straightforward for people who want to do the same project. The Arduino is a great piece of tech, but it's also a little intimidating. The Rasberry Pi is just a tiny Linux computer. Maybe a little less scary.

In either case, I'll share what I do, including any code/sketches and make it available to anyone who wants it. I suspect it will be the most fun part of my costume for me, like making the light-up card for Gambit was.

I'll need a little help but they walk ya through on a lot of stuff. Do you need both chip cards the audrino and the SD chip card? Or just the sd chip card
