I Dream of Jeannie bottle

Thank you very much! I'm glad that you like my work. That's always good to hear.
I'm afraid that I'm not much of a purist where props are concerned. I see so many things in movies that I like, but prefer better with my own spin on them. Make them more my own.

I paint as far down into the neck that I can get.
I use acrylic enamels which once fired (baked in a regular oven) are very durable.
What I've found is that it's not so much the cork that's an issue, it's that bottom retaining ring that mars/damages the paint. The bottles are not uniform. This is especially evident inside the mouth, in the throat. Where a particular cork, such as from a wine bottle will fit snugly in one bottle, it will slip right down though another bottle.
So, most often, after the cork re-assembly, I'll whittle down that lower washer. Just to be safe.

If you'ld like any help, pointers, and/or suggestions in devising your own design, just let me know.
The possibilities are endless...

SloeDjinn:

I've tried twice to paint the first season look on my bottle. Glad I chose that one, because it's really easy to clean it off when I screw it up.

Got a question about the plastic rings: what material can be used to replicate them? The bottom one is in fine shape, but the top, larger one, which seems to bear the brunt of work in keeping the stopper centered and preventing glass to glass contact, is splitting from the inside.

Ah, yes, those convex washers (or are they concave?). Those are tricky.
Of course the best source would be from another Beam stopper, and fortunately, Jim Beam did use them on decanters other than the '64 Smokey Crystal (Jeannie bottle). Many of which can be found for cheap at flea markets and yard sales. (They're also a good source for original corks!)

Failing that, believe it or not, try a plastic milk jug. Kroger's, a local grocery chain, their store brand milk jugs have large concave indents on the sides. Plenty big enough to cut out a new washer. And best yet, they're the perfect form, similarly rounded. At least I hope they still use the same jugs. The nearest Kroger's to me is on the far side of a neighboring town, and I've not been over there in a good while.

A plastic milk jug is an excellent idea! And I like the price point, too! Not sure if those rings were originally convex/concave, or if that's just 40+ years of being crammed into a bottle. Thanks!

Now I'm curious to where you viewed this bottle. It does not look like an original gold vines bottle, the leaves and detail are off. But please share your story on this bottle. I'm intrigued now!

I got to handle a first season bottle.

It's not black. It the darker version of the bottle unpainted except for the gold.

Here I am with my bottle. I was fortunate enough to have Larry Hagman sign it. I'm hoping to meet Barbara Eden sometime!

My grandma used to work for a company where she hand-painted patterns on ceramics all day long. Intricate stuff, decorative, floral, you name it. This would have been a breeze for her. Too bad she's way too old to do that kind of stuff now :(

I have one of the unpainted bottles I found just sitting on top of my neighbor's trash, she was throwing it out with a bunch of stuff when she moved away. I have always wanted to paint it, but was afraid to give it a go. I like the decal idea!

It was sitting on a shelf at the Legends warehouse in Vancouver. I was there viewing a ton of Stargate props and it was there.

The guy who owned it claimed it was the real deal, not a replica.

I was able to snag them both at the same event last year. Gave the autographed bottle to my Dad as a birthday present but I made sure he knew that I'm getting it back one day. :lol

Both Larry and Barbara were very personable! :thumbsup

Awwwwww, great find Namssorg. I wonder who'll be the lucky person with pockets deep enough to win it.

Also I don't know how this thread eluded me for so long! I have the reunion bottle and a replica of the "Old Grandad" stopper used in s1. It's only a matter of time till I get the season 1 bottle to put it in! :lol
