How to build a Hero Cricket phaser

Thanks for this great tutorial.
This was one of my favourite Phasers from the stnG.
It really helped me build my first hero kit.

Right now on to the next.

Glad these builds inspired you. Now you need to add pictures of yours to keep these threads going and to inspire others. We never get tired of seeing Crickets.

Myron Stapelton And Gerry of GMprops are two of the nicest, smartest, coolest, most talented guys around!! Anyone on the fence about buying the cricket phaser and electronics--dont hesitate!! You will be SO THRILLED when your playing with it..it just TOTALLY rocks!! Having been lucky enough to get to chat with Myron Stapelton for a while, I can honestly say he is by far one of the most interesting guys I ever spoke to...and so talented!! I salute them both!!

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't make these any longer.

OH..Well..good thing I got mine already! I will ALWAYS treasure it as the first replica I ever did. And Myron..crickets or no..your STILL the coolest!

What? Stapleton, you retired the Cricket? You just did a refit on it! What happened?

Hey Myron!! Hope alls well with you and yours!! My buddy is putting one together now and he said he cant get the battery terminals to fit with the 4 batteries. Since he lives out of State and we only talk by phone, I cant be there to help him. Any suggestions? He says the battery terminals look EXACTLY like the ones pictured..that when the 4 batteries are put in, there isnt room for ANYTHING--sound familiar? im not sure what to tell him--try to use his dremal tool to make more room? Sure would appreciste some advice! God bless!!

Are you sure he is using the correct batteries? I only used 3 "357" LR44 size in mine. Does your friend have internet access? Maybe he can join and post pics

3 357 or 3 lr44 should fit.

3 357 or 3 lr44 should fit.

Yup. 3x 357's is what I used when I built mine. The combined 4.5v was plenty to power the gmprops electronics.

Oh wow..problem solved..I have some pics of his unit he sent..since it was one I sold him when I found one assembled on ebay with a terrible paint job..I got it for a SONG and painted it up..but I digress..He is trying to use 4 303/357-3zm 1.5v which obviously is WAAAY to tight..but I can kinda see where he got that idea..it looks like 4 in the pic he looked at. IM going to post the pics I have, that I already sent Myron. I also send a gamma quadrent sized thank you to you for the quick respose, both of you!

The person who sold that one did have four LR44's in there, but no battery contacts inside! Three of those will do just fine.

That's good to know Stapleton, I thought you had retired the kit altogether! I still plan on getting one of your revised kits soon.

He revised/updated his Cricket Phaser kit. I believe he still sells them. Send him a PM.

Here is the revised kit.

I built two of his original kits and they are excellent. I am actually rebuilding one as it has a little wear and tear after a few years of playing.....I mean demonstraiting the functions of this great prop.

Without question Stapelton and Gerry--g.m. props are the BEST of the best! I meant to post these sooner, but here it is..My first cricket!! It will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart! Anyone have any suggestions what I should try next? Im torn between the Dustbuster phaser or a tricorder...which one is the EASIEST? I remember Myron Stapelton telling me the Cricket was one of the harder phasers to do..but, thanks to his award worthy step by step tutorial, I found it fairly easy...so--looking for suggestions! And thanks to EVERYONE who gave feedback and stuff...God bless!

I have not done either of those two kits you mention. I did do the Playmates Tricorder with GMProps boards. It required major mods to the Playmates body and insides. However, if your thinking of doing the Tricorder from Stapleton with the GMProps boards I'm sure it will be easier than the Playmates conversion.

With that said, the Tricorders I'm sure are harder than a Dustbuster Phaser. The Tric uses several different boards as well as a Reed switch to actuate the lights and sound when opening it. I'm sure the Dustbuster electronics would be much easier to instal.

So I'm confused about how the "thumb pad" works. Do I need to create some "give" in the slot where the thumb pad pushes down to activate the firing button on the electronics or am I just pushing the thumbpad hard enough that the styrene bends enough to push the electronic trigger button inside? Does that make sense?
