Hologram Sticker Like on credit card)

I'm considering an ID project (no, not that one), and part of the design would be a holgram security thingy like you find on most credit cards.

Anyone got any thought on how to create such an effect . Doesn't have to actually BE holograophic, just have that 'look'.

I would be interested as well... I think Jmtwo used some of the tape you are referring to on his i,Robot IDs.

If you want a silver-y looking hologram, you can buy hologram stickers and foil at arts / crafts stores.

Try looking in stickers, tape, ribbons, and wrapping paper.

If you're lucky, you'll find several generic patterns with shapes or swirls that would look realistic at first glance.

They have reflective types but no translucent tape. That's the type I've been looking for.

Multiple stencils with random parts cut out, so when they all are overlaid they complete the design wanted...

Then you take translucent pearlescent paints in multiple shades, they usually have them in blue, red, gold, silver shades... I know Hobby Lobby carries several in stock...

Using the stencils and a stencil brush you simply layer up the different colors of pearlescent paint forming the overall shape... Now because you used multiple stencils and did it in multiple layers with different shades the paints will reflect light in different ways giving the false illusion of a hologram...

This is the way they used to do it for fake IDs before the holograms got fancy...

The adhesive backed holo paper from hobby stores is great stuff--just for gits & shiggles I scanned them into my computer for a similar type of project a few months ago. You loose the holo effect, but it still looks neat. You can also find "opalescent" origami paper that looks very cool--scans in even worse than the holo stuff. :unsure
