Hollywood to tackle Space Battleship Yamato live action.

2010 film? Was it a limited release or something? I don't recall ever seeing anything for it in the US.

Yeah, and using the Arizona would be a fail of epic proportions, considering who sank it.

USS Arizona? The back story of Space Battleship Yamato seems to me as an allegory of the Japanese defeat in WWII... making this quite weird.
No thanks...

Personally I cringe at the name "Starblazers".
My friends and I have darkly joked for years that if they did one it would be the Arizona and starring Tom Crooze.

Pray Space Battleship Yamato fans, pray!.

Honestly, if they do this with the Arizona...I think that'd be a HUGE mistake. It'd stoke some pretty serious controversy, I expect, and not in a way that would benefit the film.

Studios don't like risk generally.
The required level of respect for the source material has to be very high and the studio has to put a lot of trust into
it. I'm not sure that is possible. The risk of trying to sell a resurrected Japanese battleship to an American mass audience?
That has to give the suits the shakes.
Godzilla turned out fine, so maybe that will calm studio nerves. Though Godzilla already had it's American disaster so it was time to try something more respectful.
Guardians success may help too on taking some risks on things not known to the masses.
SBY is very Japanese-centric from their WWII perspective, obviously part of the magic of why it works.
