Studios don't like risk generally.
The required level of respect for the source material has to be very high and the studio has to put a lot of trust into
it. I'm not sure that is possible. The risk of trying to sell a resurrected Japanese battleship to an American mass audience?
That has to give the suits the shakes.
Godzilla turned out fine, so maybe that will calm studio nerves. Though Godzilla already had it's American disaster so it was time to try something more respectful.
Guardians success may help too on taking some risks on things not known to the masses.
SBY is very Japanese-centric from their WWII perspective, obviously part of the magic of why it works.
