Thanks everyone! I remember making a wood phaser from the tech manual too. P1 was held on with Velcro. The nozzle was a wood thread spool, my mom just happened to have an empty one on hand, and the tip was a piece of clear sprue from a kit. Good times

Not a lot of pics this time, but lots of work done. I've been building up the P1, I attached the nut for the screw and made the sight. I also made the parts for the emitter swing arm. It's easier to drill the holes in the brass first, then cut the part out. This gives me something to hold on to while working.

All the parts finished, the rivet came from Micheal's.

Fitting Junkman's release into the P2. The latch and button had to be cut shorter.

The method for attaching the spring that I detailed a few posts back doesn't work so well now that the release is in place. I'll have to work on it some more.

Well I think I have it.

There's a small wedge shaped piece of brass soldered onto the release button, that acts as cam to push the latch back. It was binding and wouldn't move, but a dab of silicone grease took care of it.

Ha! I bet the laughed their asses off when the release fell apart on me! The wedge that pushes the latch back broke off.

But my good buddy Junkman send me a new one, he had improved the engineering on this one. Here it is installed.

The spring hooks onto the bottom end of the latch. The pivot point is just above the spring attachment, so the spring pulls the latch forward with a rearward pull.

Well I thought I had the release worked out, but it started to bind and the pin didn't always pop back out. Then it got to where it wouldn't pop out at all.

The latch snaps right back when I push it by hand, but it binds on the pin and hangs up. I had to add a small spring in the right shell half to push the pin back out. I bent it into a cone shape so it would compress to a low profile.

Now maybe I can get back to work on assembly.
