HERO LEVEL Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle FINISHED- Plus Pro Photo Shoot- First Post

Re: Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle

Loving the design thus far! Sorry that I don't have much to add. IMO I've always been told that "make it perfect, then weather it" but I really like the distorted look of the cells as-is; each are imperfect in their own way.

Re: Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle

yeah that's what all the greats seem to say.. But I think in this case I may be able to get away with it... Won't be so lucky next time when I try a non-aged piece to cast.. I'm going to do a paint test for 1 or 2 of them and see if it really looks okay. Probably best way to decide.

btw I love your Mass Effect costumes! Haven't played the games much but I'm definitely a fan of the art direction. The wrex mask is especially well executed!

Re: Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle

If you want to take this up a notch (not that it needs many more!), look into driving the lights, sound and other FX with an Arduino. if you replace the meter with one that measures something a bit different such as a 25 DC milliamp meter, you can actually drive it with the Arduino as well.

Here's a video I did of some arduino "guts" I'm working on for a Metro 2033 Volt Driver build -> Arduino based mockup for Metro 2033 Volt Driver FX on Vimeo

Re: Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle

I am especially nostalgic when people make weapons and items from my favorite videos games, and anything from fallout 3 is a welcome site. Just plain awesome.

Yeah I saw your post earlier.. I think i definitely want that kind of effect for my next piece.. would be nice on this but the electronics are already sealed within their ABS tomb...
Look forward to your volt driver.. that's a coooool looking gun! Will make sure to keep an eye on your build. I'm such an electronics noob.. can't wait to get a little more experienced and start doing more than wiring batteries to switches and LED's :D

Re: Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle

Hey can anyone tell me how to update the topic name (to add update notifications like a lot of the threads in here do...
Can't seem to find the command. Or is that a premium membership-only perk?

Hehe I didn't realize I had duplicate posted. I see meters and I get giddy :)

Really nice photoset!

Re: FALLOUT 3 PLASMA RIFLE FINISHED- Plus Pro Photo Shoot- First Post

Thanks for sticking with me on this Holtt hehe.. It's been an odyssey.. Next up I want to make a version of enclave power armor.. I wonder how many years that will take me :D

Re: FALLOUT 3 PLASMA RIFLE FINISHED- Plus Pro Photo Shoot- First Post

Really love how that all came out, and I must say it's worth seeing the "from unpainted PVC to finished item" sequence. Definitely a labor of love there (or maybe unhealthy obsession) :)

Re: FALLOUT 3 PLASMA RIFLE FINISHED- Plus Pro Photo Shoot- First Post

To the vets of the prop game.. Would love to hear any specific feedback from you in regards to the prop.. i.e. 1 better sticker/transfer methods 2 Rust and weathering effects (I had a hard time getting airbrushed brown acrylic to stick on top of chrome krylon aerosol, so I satin clear coated it.. but the sheen is unrealistic now...) 3 arduino voltage meter ... any others please feel free to speak critically! Only way I'll get better.

Alittle bit of both Holtt... A little bit of both. Lets see if I can do the power armor without killing myself...

This is absoultely amazing! Well done.

Re: FALLOUT 3 PLASMA RIFLE FINISHED- Plus Pro Photo Shoot- First Post

Would love some feedback from the Pro's on details I could have done better.. Only way I'll move closer to perfection.. BE RUTHLESS!! Hope to hear back!
