Help with Indigo Lantern Staff

Been planning to make this during my Winter Break this year, and since I'm out tomorrow, I was planning on going out and getting supplies soon.

any ideas/tips are appreciated, but there is one thing I really need help with:

I'm planning on hooking it up with some LEDs, and I need a lens for the front of the staff. I was planning on using one of these, which I found on the instructable, but have no idea where to find one.

I'm not sure what that product is, but I think the color is wrong for the indigo staff. I would use a small tap light, or a clear sphere Christmas ornament that you get at a craft store.

hahahaha obviously I'd get it in a purple color if I found it.

going to home depot tomorrow to get the pole, I'll look around....

as far as the staff and not the head of it, i would get a 10 to 12 foot aluminum pole, thin, maybe 2 feet in length, leather straps( in more recent versions there are straps wrapped around parts of the staff), and Krylon X-metals spray paint in purple and blue(to get that indigo color). For the head of it, i dont know, your call.

I would think metal staff wouldn't look right. To my eye the staffs look more like wooden staffs than metal.

I have also been thinking of making one of these. For the staff part I was thinking of using bamboo, to give it a more organic look. Haven't really decided how to do the head yet.

I was thinking of a wood staff, and then do a rough covering of like plaster or bondo or something.

I sculpted the of mine out of foam and covered it with bondo and put it on top of a wooden stick. I also added led light with a micro switch on the handle, Im thinking of adding a reed switch so the ring I made will turn the light on or off.
