Help/Advice with US agent shield

So I'm EXTREMELY new to prop making, I've never made anything before and for my first piece I've decided to try and make the US agents shield from thunderbolts.

I've already got a base shield on its way which I'm going to sand down and paint however as the posters show it has a ton of scratches which I want to try and replicate however since it's a plastic shield I feel like I'll struggle to create metal looking scratches

Any advice on making the scratches, painting them or just general tips for something like this would be really appreciated thanks!!!

You could try with a Dremel/rotary tool to cut into the shield for the cuts, i saw the movie, and going by the posters the Scratches change. you could also maybe Paint the shield then take the shield out and just throw it around at some rocks to get that authentic feel.

hope this helped. and good luck on your build

I would second what NerdCollector said and get at it with a rotary tool.

I would also recommend using some insanely rough sand paper. Like 40-60 grit to get some super deep scratches that you can guide in the circular pattern. From what I saw in the movie, some of the textured scratches seemed to be in a circular pattern, and its also where the bits of coloured paint are settled into.

Please post about this build!! Its something I was highly considering making when I watched the film.
