Helmet lining

Hi all. I'm finishing up my X-Wing pilot helmet, and all that's left is the lining. Right now I have a bunch of cut up yoga mat pieces inside of it, which does the job but is super ugly. I've read quite a bit about using foam, or knee pads, or other options, and I have a few questions...

If I cut my own foam, what is the best foam to use? Specifically, what is the best foam to have squished up against my forehead? I was looking at window insulation foam, but I have sensitive skin and I'm worried about having a bad reaction to industrial materials. Does anybody know what kind of foam do they use in hockey helmets?

What about after-market motorcycle helmets? I'm tempted to buy something like this:

But I can't tell if it's the right general shape or what size to get. I mean, it's $20, I could just take a chance and see what I get, but I'd certainly appreciate any advice from someone with more motorcycle helmet knowledge than I have

Curious what helmet you got. Darth Hair sells probably the most popular kit for the Rebel Legion folks, they come with an excellent liner. Check out the RL forum and hit him up, I'm sure you can get one from him.

For my stormtrooper helmet, I bought a kids batting helmet from the sporting goods store. Took a heat gun to it, and the liner foam came right out.

I believe my helmet is a Moncal, but I bought my whole kit secondhand so I could be wrong about that. It's definitely not a Darthhair. I met him at Celebration and tried on one of his helmets, and it was beautiful and fit like a charm. My helmet is a quirkier fit; I've had to do a little rebuilding to make it fit right.

Thanks for the heat gun tip! I bought a cheap kid's batting helmet, too, but I destroyed the foam trying to cut it out with a knife. I'll give the heat gun a shot!

I used EVA foam (anti-fatigue mats from Ollie's Bargain Outlet) to make a pattern for my Mandalorian Helmet...

I have three Ritchie's Armor helmets but I would love to replace the liners. So I too am looking for options.
