This is an official informational compendium for the Troll Viewer goggles from Hellboy 2.

in the movie they're called Schufftein Glasses. This is a film in-joke.
The Schufftein process is a very early film special effect process, using a mirror to achieve an in-camera matte.

The glasses seem like a pretty straightforward construction. Here are all the pictures I've got in my file.

I've got a few shots from the film of the box, but it'd be great to get some better reference of the case the troll viewers come in.

I can grab some screens from the bluray, but I'm guessing you've already done that?

I do have some screengrabs, but not from the blueray. By all means post what you can. You might even be able to read what's on the crate.

The higher res the better

Here are my screengrabs. LIke I said higher res would be awesome

Ok... here are some high res shots from the Bluray. Sadly, they're a bit hard on the compression (I had to get them from my digital copy since the Bluray version I have is impossible to easily grab screens from) but you can make out a lot of detail. Got some fairly good shots of the box too. Images are all 1920X1080.

Here are some crops and a link to the gallery I just set up:

Those face buttons sure look like old paint gun tips. You can just barely see the slots in the screenshot. Like they have been filled in.

Actually, because of their red, rubbery color, I'd always assumed that they were some type of suction cup.

In the designs by pablo angeles in the art of the movie they are shown as suction cups, so dr krauss can stick the goggles to his helmet.

So have we established the text on the top of the box yet?
My best guess:

THE
SMITHSONIAN
INSTITUTE
1332

LOT 338

Not sure about those numbers at all.

I was thinking about tackling these and found this thread. I was thinking the glass pieces could be monocles or old optometrist lenses.
