Hellboy Rasputin Mecha Glove project?

Got an unprecedented 4 hours in the shop today! Yay!

Traced the palm off my screen directly (printer in the shop was broken) and sewed up the palm outline, hammered holes with a leather hole punch and added grommets. Saved time on the grommets by not using a backing plate. Not needed as they're not structural.

Also finished the leatherwork for the leather above the spinning ring and the leather below it. Did a lot on the belt as well.

Next task, the fingers, and the palm bag. Going to mock it up with something like vinyl to get the patterns.

Then to farm out the quilting.

Discovered a trick to doing nice looking leather stitching. Score the pattern edge, and then lightly score the sewing line, just inside, but (and this is important) don't cut out the shape until AFTER you've sewn the edge stitch. Then when you cut the leather out you can follow the seam you stitched. Your cut line will look much cleaner that way.

Looking great so far. Wish I was that far along but I'll likely wait until I have almost everything to start the build. Spent a couple hours looking for finely quilted fabrics last week but didn't find anything suitable.

Here's what I've been doing the last couple of days:

Looks killer- with three boys (my oldest turns 7 this week) I can only imagine what it's like to get 4 hours in the shop! The only way I ever get anything done is by staying up late. :)

How many of these are you making?!

I don't know if this has been covered, but what are the rings under the soft leather around the wrist?

I was wondering if they were just an optical artefact but they seem to have wear and dirt on them.

Here are a few clearer ones. Sorry not really clear but it's what i have.

This is the ball that was going to go in tube 7. It was 2 halves. I think they are glass. They mention drawing the design and having them etched or engraved into it.

I took this one because i believe that small black ring is the mounting ring/housing to the gauge where the needle for the nazi gauge came from. I looked at about every instrument in ebays aviation category and none had the exact needle.

That person drawing the designs on the ball is Mike Mignola himself. The ball itself is acrylic, which, by the looks of it, was painted white.
Then that tube interior was replaced with the liquid. I'm going to go with a ball, and I'm planning on making Mignola-like scrolls on it.

I also think it's an interesting idea to make another mecha-hand that follows Mignola's drawing. I'm still thinking about doing one. Something in a far more beaten leather.

I took delivery of several items last week.
100 12v grain of wheat bulbs.
A PWM dimmer from ebay for dimming the lights
A PWM motor control for changing the speed of the motor, should I want to.

Work progresses. I believe I'll tackle patterns for the gloves next. I've already resolved to sew the fingers in a single long tube which I'll cut to the 4 pieces for the individual fingers.

Any idea what the ring retaining the dial is from, it has numbers on the surface, not really a detail you'd put on something like this, I was thinking it was for an rc car beadlock wheel taking model bl35s.
just a thought.

Oh, there's no doubt in my mind that come a few months time there will be a few of this prop around. :)

After modeling the cage and scorpion box/cage, I've moved on to the vinegaroon. Still a ways to go but it's taking shape...
