Just popping in to say that the project isn't dead. I'm gonna get back to fixing a few things on the 3d models soon. Just waiting on some details and info and then I'll try to set aside some time for it.
Here's a SMALL update for y'all to show that things are still happening, if a bit slowly. Here's what the vinegaroon looks like printed. Turned out rather well.
Something to keep in mind is that the legs on this critter are about 1mm thick! It's REAL small.
Yeah, I was thinking about this too. Halloween has been a major blocker for me so I haven't had time to think about this for a while but it's still on the list. I did three BPRD characters this year- Hellboy, Liz Sherman and Johan Krauss (#36 in the RPF costume contest! Shameless plug, haha!). Until this gets going again I'm going to start fiddling with making some Kroenen "windup key" replicas...
Can anyone tell me the diameter and depth of the vinegaroon chamber? I'm thinking of sculpting the bug.. I've got some experience in small-scale insect sculpting.. Do I want to send it to Adam so that he hires a fellow industrial designer? ... maybe...
Then again worse case it's just me paying the man back for hours of entertainment while I do my work...
We've already got the bug sorted (Adam has my 3d printed version) but by all means have a go if you can do a more detailed one. The thing is TINY! I had to do several revisions to even get it to print properly. A proper sculpt would probably allow a lot more detail.
Adam is also using my model for the cage. The "rune ring" is about 4.9cm wide and about 5mm deep. He was planning to cast the cage after modifying the printed master, but I don't know what resin he's using, so have no idea of possible shrinkage factor. I know he has started working on the glove again fairly recently so maybe he'll chime in here soon.
Nice thanks for the information. The community here is one on my main sources of motivation and inspiration.
I'll probably take a crack at it so I'll keep you guys updated on what I'm doing. I guess it's always a trade off with detail.. That vinegaroon is not nature-realistic but then again maybe it's an enchanted vinegaroon.. Plus it does go well with the 'steampunk aesthetic'.
I'll keep you guys updated!
happy new years!
I've been busy moving across the country and Adam has been busy with other stuff but this project is NOT dead. In fact... hopefully there will be some major updates soon(ish). Adam sent out the 3d printed parts I modeled and had them CHROMED. Here's a sneak peak at the results. (Adam's image that he gave the OK to share.) I haven't seen the parts in person yet but I can say that my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw it...
