HASBRO PROTON PACK 10/27

It looks like it’s also covered in a layer of thin Eva foam and some kind of fabric

It looks to me like it could be something like this kind of fabric.

They've started arriving in mainland Europe. The size and especially weight of the box is surprisingly high. The longest side of the box is 80cm or 31.5 inches. The weight is 16kg or 35 pounds.

Here is a sense of scale. They dwarf a motorcycle. Here is an unboxing and review

Words fail me how awesome this is, but I'll try. The quality is superb.

-This is the classic mode. The powercell lights don't look like that video in real life. In reality you see the 13 individual lights clearly.

Edit: These are all the videos I made trying to answer all questions from GBfans and the FB groups:

-When you take it out of the box you don't really know where to grab it. It's heavy and has so many wires and parts that you can't get a grip anywhere. I found it's best to put the box on its side and take out the pack wrapped in white paper that way.

-The moment you see it in the box the look of it is amazing. The weathering really is perfect for a mass produced item. It really looks like the Afterlife pack. The weathering is very subtle and well done, not sharp crude silver lines like the Hasbro wand. It doesn't come with the ion arm attached, you have to attach it and set up the stand yourself. You need to be pretty brutal in clicking the 4 stand pieces together to make the stand, they don't slot easily. You have to slap them hard to get them connected.

-The pack is boxed in THREE separate boxes each inside the other. An outer Hasbro shipping box, an inner cardboard box that says "Please open the bottom" and inside that the "crate" box with the graphics.

-First off, I couldn't believe it but the pack and wand actually communicate. It looks like Hasbro did it afterall! Go Bill Rawley, we miss you. Not only switching on and off but the various wand actions cause the pack to react (except changing power level and switching to slime/stasis/boson, etc).

It looks like they succeeded in the powerdraw method. As long as it is within a few minutes of switching the main pack button on and off. The pack main switch can then be off, you can switch on the toggle on the wand and the pack fires up. Hit activate on the wand to activate the cyclotron and the rumble in the pack increases. Fire the wand and the effect is different again. Can't believe Hasbro managed it after all that went on and how many of us sent messages with how it could be achieved and all the flak we received from other fans to "just be happy we were receiving a pack". This is so awesome, it's beyond all expectations. Literally.

-Obviously the pack can also be switched on using the red button on the pack itself. But it doesn't need to be on to fire up the pack from the wand switches. If both the pack red button is on and the wand switches are on (so it's live) and you switch the red pack switch off, the whole thing shuts down.

-The paint finish is perfect. The weathering is not like the Hasbro wand at all. The silver highlights are not as fake and appear more greyish. The color of the pack is that perfect matte/satin combination. I don't know yet if the weathering can be removed using any alcohol over 90% (like the Hasbro wand weathering could), though it's so good I will probably leave it.

-The pack is a very slight amount lighter shade of black/anthracite than the wand (barely noticeable), or appears so because the pack look has a slight metallic silver flake in it. This is consistent with the work ISS did on the Afterlife screen used packs according to Ben Eadie. Really one of the most amazing things about this pack (and there are so many) is the color. Proton Packs look slightly different in different scenes due to shine, etc. the Afterlife version adds that even further subtle weathering, but this Hasbro version is just perfect. This thing should get an award for just the color and look.

-The build quality is excellent. With something that has so many little parts and pieces you'd expect everything plastic to creak and squeak when you move it but there is none of that. This thing feels like a SOLID piece overall. Nothing creaks or budges when you handle it. The choice of plastic type or resin is perfect, it feels completely rigid.

-Unpacking just 1 of these took like 20 minutes. Really, unpacking one takes a LOT of time. leaving the absolute weight aside, all the boxes, filler, compartments housing the hose, paperwork, etc. The first (main) box needs to be opened on both sides or you can't get it out on your own. It is VERY heavy. Even more so with batteries installed afterwards.

-It needs FOUR not three D cell batteries like mentioned earlier. Please get brand new batteries.

-They fixed the ticonderoga hexagonal pencil shape on the booster tube frame!

-The stand has two possible methods of supporting the pack, one slightly leaning back, one more upright. Depending on which grooves you put the pack on.

-The red warning label under the crank is offset to the left just like on all 3 Afterlife screen used packs, (Phoebe 1&2 and the workbench pack) unbelievable!

-The two switches inside the cyclotron compartment are:

-Switch 1: Classic mode or Afterlife mode on the effects
-Switch2: Turn the motor on or off

-EDIT: There is a final switch (plastic, black, similar to the main red pack power switch) underneath the red warning label underneath the crank box. I don't know what that switch does yet. It may be the switch they included that was "empty" and could be programmed by fans to include proprietary functionality.

-I could remove the ribbon cable and red cable to take off the cyclotron cover but I couldn't get the yellow ribboned cable off. I don't think you need to remove any of them to be honest when you take the shock mount off to remove the bumper and cyclotron cover but I'm not sure. (the connecting electrodes are in the cyclotron cover itself, not in the wires) EDIT: I'm wrong. The ribbon cable actually has live wires connecting to the cyclotron cover.

-The manual implies that one "CRT emitter" is removable from within the cyclotron cover. In fact they are all removable. Edit: In fact, even the wire plugs that go into the square LED compartments on the back of the cyclotron cover are removeable.

-For those that have never seen a proton pack, these things are huge. Setting it on your desk on the stand isn't really practical. They tower over everything.

-As for customization I will probably leave it, the weathering is that good. I'll just add a frame and get rid of the pale yellow ribbon and replace it with the actual Flexo PET 1/2 inch neon yellow with black tracer they used in Afterlife.

-The crank controls the volume and doesn't have a hard stop, it rotates freely on probably a potentiometer. Which means you can set it at max volume in any position you like. Worth noting is that the pack speaker seems slightly less loud than the wand, when on the ground on the stand. This may be because the speaker placement is intended to direct the sound to you when you are wearing it.

-This product is going to win awards, I guarantee it.

As for the fabric covering the foam on the top of the frame. I have been told it’s the same material scuba suits are made out of

I don’t remember the number correctly right now.. but I think 6mm thick.. don’t quote me on that, I have double check when I get home

I also believe the foam (pool noodle) was from GBfans, their white foam which they painted the ends black, then encased it in the scuba fabric

I ended up going with this for the tube and 5mm EVA foam covered in adhesive nylon.

Now that you mentioned the wet suit material, that does seem like a good match for the fabric. The only neoprene I've been able to find is just that - foam padding. I guess buying a really cheap wet suit and cutting out a section of the back is an option.

Edit: found the appropriate wet suit fabric. One sample of the fabric should cover the tube.

I didn’t discover the scuba fabric myself, matt over on GBfans has many on set connections. And that’s what he used, so I trust his judgement and the information that he “can” share

Man, I'm so excited to get mine. I'm U.S.-based, so I've been checking my email like a mad man. When I check my order status on Hasbro Pulse, it says it's "in progress". Hope that means it's getting ready to ship. I signed up for this thing day one.
Mine still says "Estimated Shipping Spring 2023" =(

If you get the FedEx app and sync it to your email that's linked to your Hasbro account, you can see the tracking info for the pack. Most U.S. buyers received that update today that FedEx has created tracking numbers.

Thanks for the heads up. I have tracking information in the delivery manager of my FedEX account, but I haven't received a notification update.
