Harry Potter: Snape Build (HBP)

Ha ha!

Perhaps it is Snape who looks like Liszt!

Nice detail on the coat. My coat only has a vent in the center, but you can easily see on the Civil War jacket pattern I used how there COULD be a solid panel in the center back and two vents on either side.

Maybe next time! :lol

I actually bought a book once because it had a picture of Lizst on the cover and I thought it looked like Snape. Very superficial of me, judging the book by its cover like that. :lol

Actually makes it that much cooler. Cant wait to get done with SW builds so I can get a start on a Snape.

Hi Folks,

I've only just seen this thread (and have only scan read it) but thought I'd post the following quickly in case it helps

An interesting note -- the Voldemort costume on display looks green. It is in fact black silk, but they threw a pale green drape underneath it because the black bodysuit Fiennes wears looks like Voldemort Men in Tights when its on display.

Unfortunately that's not strictly true. The robes were actually green although in most lights they do look admittedly look black.

For GoF they used over 50m of silk :eek.

The silk used in GoF was very thin, lightweight to give that "whispy" effect that you see as he's resurected. It works beautifully with the CGI transition.

For OotP they changed the robes to use less fabric (although it's still a lot!). Again, they stuck with silk (2 types in fact), but they switched to a slightly denser weight.

The theory is that some time had passed since he was resurected so he'd gained in strength so this was reflected in a more "Solid" looking costume.

Also, the robes are made of 2 parts - the outer bit which "flows" and an inner robe. Again, both are green.

If you check out the Deathly Hallows trailer (I've not seen the film yet so I'm not sure if it's seen in the 1st one), the robes have remained the same in shape although there is a change in one aspect......I won't say what or why though yet as it's a potential spoiler ;)

Also, just to clear up the Snape colour debate. They're actually blue, although to be fair, if I didn't know better I'd also have said they were black too :lol (and that's the way it should be - you'd want Snape to be wearing black after all wouldn't you!)

Apparently the problem is, if they'd have used black they (on screen) would have lost lots of the detailing (especially in scenes with filters applied) so it would have ended up looking really flat and naff.

I guess the key thing with that is, from a costuming point of view, if you feel blue wouldn't look right, there's no harm in going with black.

I hope that helps.

It's really hard to say, it does look blue and it does look black and it does look blue/black. But if you look at his hair over his right shoulder, his very flat black hair looks blue because of the lighting.

I don't want to get to deep into this, I'm still dealing with my PTSD over Han's blue/brown parka. kessa, how do you know for certain it's blue? I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just curious as to how you would know that for sure.

No, that's fair question. All I can really say is that I was fortunate enough to see the original ;)

The museum replicas licensed costume (coming out in december) lists it as a deep navy blue. Not sure how correct it is to the original but to me also it always looked a really deep blue. :wacko

But what kessa said makes sense. Another example of a film doing something similar is Pirates of the caribbean At world's end. Captain Teague's coat was a red colour but they had to mix blue in with the dye so that it appears the colour it does on camera. So if u were to see Teague's coat in person it wont be the same colour as it is on screen

Yep, you're spot on there. :)

The only thing to watch for is that the "Museum Replicas" look really good, but they will have subtle differences to the original versions (partly so that they cant get passed on as the originals!) so dont take them for granted as being 100% correct. ;)

Kessa, did you see a tour display, or did you have the fortune of getting to see a behind-the-scenes look at the costume? The reason I ask is that a lot of the studio pics and screen grabs, it looks like it could be a really dark navy blue, but in these photographs posted by Ghostsoldier, it looks very black, with maybe just a hint of blue in the coat and trousers. --------------------------------------------------------------

No, I was fortunate enough to see the actual costume - can't really say any more than that though sadly (wish I could!)

No problem, I understand. Based on your first hand experience then, would you say that the pictures in my last post aren't of a screen-used costume?

I am wanting to buy the full costume from them just simply because I cant make it myself. What sort of changes will be made do you think?
