Lord of the Rings: Nazgul/Ringwraith

This looks stellar!! I've been wanting to put together a Nazgul costume, and I will definitely be taking some inspiration from yours.

I'm curious about the circular embroidered(?) details around the trailing base of the robes. Was that an artistic flourish of your own, inspired by the concept of kingly garb that's decayed over centuries? Or is this something that existed on the real costumes? I know there were some bits of lace and other "luxurious" textiles in the originals...

Thank you!

The trims I used aren't screen accurate. I know only two trims that were for sure on the screen costume. One was the silver on the dangly under arm bit. There's photos of that from the parade they did for ROTK. And the other is a trim/embroidery around the sleeve opening that is on one of the statues.

Using that idea, I added embroidery and trims to every layer to give the costume depth. And I did know that they purposefully added some details to give them that kingly feeling to harken back to who they were.

Specifically I chose the lace detail you asked about because it looks like Sauron's eye once I cut it out. And I liked that idea.

That would be awesome!

I think all the really detailed ringwaith/witch king cosplayers I know are all over seas. Which is sad because I'd love to meet up with some of you all one day!
That's too bad if that's the case, I think I know of atleast one witch king in the US ( only follow him on insta don’t know him personally) called stattingup.

But maybe someday make a holiday of it and come visit haha!

How did I miss you?!?!? Problem solved!

No rule that says you need a separate one! I only split mine bc I was tired of having family/normie friends stuff on my cosplay feed. hahaha. I'm rarely on my personal acct anymore.

No idea haha! Yeah for that reason I am debating creating that second account as well, but I don't really post any personal stuff either.
And secondly my name, I don't think it makes much sense in another language than Dutch and I have no idea how a person speaking English could pronounce it.

We do not do well pronouncing it. hahaha.

You could just change your handle on your current acct to whatever you want your cosplay handle to be. Then you're not starting over but you get your cool cosplay handle. A lot of cosplayers do a play on words with their name to get their cosplay handle.

I thought so LOL

Didn't know I could just change my own handle at any time, ty for the tip. I have been thinking about that type of name where I use a play on words or on my name but no inspiration as of yet. Ah well, maybe it'll suddenly come to me!
Thanks for the follow btw. I really like this part of Insta where people can connect and encourage each other's work.

How's it going with the nazgul costume btw? Did you manage to create that hood harness?

I have not. I started working on Padme and Barbie to have them ready for a con and haven't picked up the ringwraith again yet. It definitely needs some work though. When I cut the face mask open for my face it caused the towels I currently use for height to move around a ton! So that was annoying. But I'll prolly work on it the next time I decide to wear this costume.

I'm thinking of doing a structure similar to wig cages. Similar to the photo below but attached to a headband. It's light, breezy, and will stay put better if I move my head around. Then I can ditch the stupid morph mask altogether. The face shield I made worked really well I just have to attach it better to the hood. But that was so nice because I could just flip it up and see normally.

No experience with wig cages whatsoever but that looks like it should work well and would be alot cooler! Actually thinking I could use that for my witch king as well, but not sure if I can make it appear as big as a full head. Maybe with some wires added on or some other kind of material.
I have that EVA with upholstery foam dome currently that will sit on my head instead, which will definitely be hotter than that.

If you can attach it to a headband and create it yourself, I think this looks like one of the best solutions for adding height and also keeping the fabric off your head a bit. Great idea!

Something like this would work great I think! (Quick google later) If it can sit on top of head fully and if I can attach it with a couple of straps it would be alot cooler!
