Harry Potter Death Eater costume FINISHED PHOTOS post #25

Re: Harry Potter Death Eater costume - WIP - FINISHED WAND BELT

Awesome, I can't wait to see it - the wife has hidden it from me though and wont let me see it until xmas lol

@Pete - brilliant job you've done on this - hats off to you - love the attention to detail... especially on the boots & the holster! Well done!

By the dub, since I didn't get an answer in my thread, I thought I'd ask here (don't mean to hijack a thread, but it's relevant), I'm redoing my death eater mask. I've cast it in resin and have bondo'd and sanded it smooth. Now id like to put a coat of sculpey (or something) over the entire mask, so I can carve a design into it, like the official DE masks. Any suggestions?

Re: Harry Potter Death Eater costume - WIP - FINISHED WAND BELT

Do what I did... Swing by the local bookseller and take a peek!

Ha ha, I did the same thing! I'm sure we're not the only ones! The full Death Eater costume shot is great in the book. But he's wearing the other belt design, different to the one I based my belt on.

You're not highjacking, don't worry, like you say it's totally relevant. I think if I were to try adding a sculpted design to an already solid piece, I'd start by using Milliput.

Milliput is a two part epoxy clay, which you mix the two parts together, then approx 2 hours later is rock hard. It is also great to customise with as it sticks to anything (within reason) and it can be smoothed out with water (while soft) then it sands beautifully once it has cured. It also takes paint really well.

You can also work in small sections at a time. I'd probably mix up a batch big enough to cover the nose say, then spread a thine layer over the nose, then sculpt in the etched lines, smooth it off, then leave it to cure. Then go on to the chin and mouth etc. etc.

I would advise against using sculpey, as it will crack and fall off your mask as it dries (it shrinks a little when baked) where as Milliput will stay on FOR EVER!

I hope that makes some sense!

Re: Harry Potter Death Eater costume - WIP - FINISHED WAND BELT

Here's a collection of photos of the finished costume. It would benifit from a bit more mud and grime around the hem of the robe I think, but other than that, I think he's juat about done. It's nice to have finally wrapped this one up!

Thanks, Pete!

One more thing. How would you suggest deepening the eye sockets? I need to completely resculpt them.

Just cut them out with a dremel?

I was thinking i'd do this and and back the eye sockets with cut down plastic cups or wire mesh or something and re sculpt them entirely. What do you think?

(last one, I promise.)

Thanks again for the comments guys!

This is entered in a contest over on Instructables.com, I'd REALLY appriciate a vote if you don't mind! :) (Thanks again Nobby!)

Here's a link to the Tutorial

There's lots of info there about how I made the mask/boots/ belt and robes

Robert412, I just had a look at your DE thread, and it looks like your planning on moulding your current mask once you have finished customizing it, then using a cast from that mould as your final mask, is that right? If so then I think your right that you need to cut away the section of the eyes that you want to "sink" Then just back them up with sections of plastic or something from the rear, then sculpt your new eye sockets into the cavity. And yes, I'd use a cutting wheel in a dremel to rough cut the eye sockets away, then clean the cut up with a sanding bit.

Good luck with it, I can't wait to see it!

Very nice! I love the build! I might just ...no! NO! Kialna! you have so many costumes in progress already! *slaps self*

Love the costume. Me and my wife went as voldemort and bellatrix for the premiere of the last movie. If only there were more people that go all out like this in my area.

Thanks everyone. It was a fun one to put together. It did take a while, but worth it in the end. I would like to take some more pics in better lighting, and I would LOVE to have some shots in a location with ecclesiastical stone arches and ruins like Hogwarts. But I do NOT think it would go down well with the locals in the village if I was seen doing a Death Eater photoshoot outside the local Norman church!

I'll have to wait for another opportunity..

Love this, especially the great build documentation on instructables. The death eater masks are probably my favorite costume pieces from the films, and you nailed it.
