Re: HALO Master Chief Costume Progress Thread
I just realized I've been neglecting this thread, so here's a massive update:
First off, I've started getting some of the guys to come out for photoshoots and some video filming. Here's pics from the first of those:
As I may have mentioned before, I've been refining my undersuit design:
The main reason for these half-sleeves is to hold up the bicep armor:
This is the only picture I took of the inside while I was making it:
Here I am trying it on with the helmet:
The parachute buckles will be to attach the straps that will hold up the thigh armor. There's a matching set on the back:
Here's what it looks like with the arms:
I left it loose so it will fit someone with bigger arms. If it was tighter it wouldn't have all of the gathering problems at the elbows.
Here's the whole torso rig on:
In other news, I've finalized my undersuit design. Sadly, the last time I got dressed up for pictures, my designated photographer failed me. This is the best pic I've got of the undersuit parts all together:
The main problem was that I was waiting for one of the guys to get out of work and we didn't get started with pictures until just after the sun set. So most of the pics had horrible lighting like so:
Given my poor, self-taught photoshopping skills, the best I've managed to do for fixing any of them is like so:
I've unloaded the green suit to pay for more materials, so I won't be taking any more pictures of it.
In other news, I rushed through the building of three undersuits back in January because I was invited to the Exploratorium in San Francisco to set up an exhibit as part of their monthly Open Make program. I set up a few pieces to show the process I used to build my armor as well as a few other prop replicas and sculpts. I also brought a couple of the guys in full armor to get people's attention. So here's how my day started before they opened their doors:
While I was stuck at the table answering questions and whatnot, the guys wandered all over the place and got some really great photos:
But wait! There's more!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So there are 34,000 words in the Flickr set from that day:
Open Make at the Exploratorium - a set on Flickr
If that's not enough, here's a video clip:
The plan was to be filming every week or so, but we're falling behind.
As always, stay tuned...
