Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 20APRIL2011 Helmet is 99.9% Done

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 08JAN2011: Lights Wired to Light sensor!

Are you trying to upload more the one or two pictures at a time? generally depending on the quality, it will 'crash' if there are more then like one.

Oh I was just trying to upload the one video.

Oh, It can't upload videos :D

Probably should have told you that, on the up side, you've got almost a half a page of RPF Q&A/Tech support for posting pictures.

I don't even know, I think I'm going to bed, that way when I get up I can see the video.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 08JAN2011: Lights Wired to Light sensor!

Thanks to BlueRealm for the help, I found accurate LED covers that will be seen on the sides of the helmet, but I had to order them online, so it'll be a few days before I can really install the whole set up. I did pre-drill holes on the sides for the LED placements, but not gonna go any further until I have the covers.

Oh yea, and I'm gonna just hot glue for the visor. I tried last night using the two part epoxy and it wouldn't even adheare to the helmet! :angry

Just watched it, and awww, you've got the voice of most people that build things and post videos of them on youtube, :D

Now where is the video of you finishing the helmet :angry

Well I just went and refunded a 2nd tube of that epoxy I bought yesterday, and used that cash to buy a decent glue gun, which I'm more famliar and better at using. I'll be using this to install the visor for the most part. Because of the lack of adhearance by the epoxy, I'm debating weather or not I even want to attempt using it as a filler between the gaps. Maybe I'll just hold off until I get back home to do a filler at all so I can use something more maliable too.

As for the lights, like I said, just waiting for the caps I ordered to come it. I've already got my plans to install them-same thing I did with my Darktrooper helmet lights in the areators; attach the LED through the center of a square of plastic, and then attach the base of that square to the bottom part of the cover/cap. It'll be quick and simple.

After I get these two things installed, it'll technically be done, aside from helmet padding!

well, glad to know you close to finishing the lid.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 08JAN2011: Lights Wired to Light sensor!

Well, I just installed the visor, and I'm actually happy with how it came out. I'm not too particularly upset with the gaps either!

After I finish the helmet, I'll be getting alot better photos outside. I think it's kind of cool that parts of the mountains around post look very close to the Halo 3 levels in Africa

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Looks great.

Are the holes for the LEDs smaller on one side or is that just the camera or something?

I just made the holes on the left side large enough for the LEDs to stick through for now. I didn't do it to the other side just yet as it won't really matter until I get the larger caps

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I've decided that I'm gonna start filling the gaps between the visor. It's a relativly small gap but the more I look at it, the more it's getting annoying to me. The only thing that I've been concerned about doing this, is being able to sand/smooth it after application without scratching the visor. I'm gonna try and apply it with a piece of styrene to smooth it out.

The main gaps don't conceren me, but the space between the nose portion appears to be the largest, so I'm not too sure how weird it's gonna look just yet

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I'll come to Ft. Lauderdale, saying ima get chu, then hiding cause you're twice my size :D

Hey, I'll have you know *Book of Lucifer to the face*

I'm immortal, myahahahahaha *runs*

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Started to sand down one section of the filler. I'm deathly afraid of even putting a dremel near it, so I'm having to do the sanding by hand. Aside from that, I have to be incredibly cautious of scratching the visor.

So here's how it's looking so far. I've covered the lower portions, just leaving part of the sides still exposed. I know I'm not gonna get it 100% smooth, but as the old technique, with some minor imperfections, add some weathering lol Besides, it looks better than an open gap anyday.

The only issue I'm having is that the material will "smudge" on the visor. Most of it I can rub off, but some of it is staying on there. IDK, Maybe I'll have to use something stronger to scrub with. Anyways, here's a quick peek...

The nose portion is a little larger than I like, but I'm keeping it "seperated" from the visor a bit. Just something I personally want.

I also got some pics of that flashlight too.

Kinda ticked, I was cleaning my room earlier and I moved this and accidently broke one of the solder points on the sensor. I'll fix it though, just an inconvienience...

Cool, and no lie, try a magic eraser for the smudge, try it dry, then try it damp, but make sure to squeeze out any excess water.
