Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 20APRIL2011 Helmet is 99.9% Done

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Works on damn near anything, it got caulk off a window after it had dried and left a similar smudge, I've gotten the putty you use to fix holes in the wall, Spackle I think off glass, just don't try cleaning dirt off certain types of walls, it will remove the paint too if you are too rough.

Hell, it'll give your Trooper armor one hell of a shine :thumbsup

Just started pepping a Scout Helmet yesterday, where is that crying emoticon T.T,

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Hmm, where do they sell this? I might have to use this after I'm done painting it up.

Also, one thing I'm considering, just to make life a bit easier and reduce risk of a future mishap, I'm thinking about just filling the lower/mid portions up and leaving the topside gaps exposed. Both because it's not nearly as noticable and will allow some ventilation

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I think it's a good idea, and magic erasers are found at walmart.

Another thing you might want to consider it just getting breathable material to put in any bigger gaps.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I still have the forward helmet vents on the front. I left that nifty fan back home though... The gaps at the top are alright enough for circulation
I think

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

hmmm, yea, going back and looking at the gaps again, they aren't as drastic as I thought, they are pretty hard to notice in the first place.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Yea it's not that bad, but I'd like to fill in the sides at least. One thing I like is that since I did this, even though not done yet, the helmet looks more "solid" that it did before

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I agree, from the pictures when you didn't have the visor in it look thinner and flimsier, it's weird knowing that the visor is all the changed

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I'm not sure what you're using for filler, but if you're gentle, you can probably shave it off with an X-acto knife. Before you get to that point though, it'd be a good idea to mask off the visor with some painter's tape to save yourself the trouble.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

I have been, double layering it. Part of it just rubbed through the tape when I was sanding, resulting in that lite scuff.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

the helmet looks great....love the liner..keep it up..cant wait to see it fully finished

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Thanks man. Can't wait to get the foam in there so I can attach the liner. I'm trying to think of what I can do to imitate the foam details that can be seen along the inside rim of the helmet.

The scifire/Hyperfirm/legendary armor team is the only group to have actually made a foam version of this, but I remember them saying that they were gonna scrap it

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Ugh, Been so tired lately. I think the Army is changing over to a new APFT soon, so we've been doing nothing but sprint drills and the like in our ACU's

I'm gonna pick this back up over the weekend after I can get 8+ hours of sleep. The LED cap/covers will be delieverd tomorrow, but the chances of getting it from my company the day before a 4 day weekend is nill..

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

If I may ask, what is ACU and APFT short for?

Also, I wish you plenty of rest.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

ACU= Army Combat Uniform
APFT= Army Physical Fitness Test

Yep. They are doing away with the 2 mile run and making it more combat oriented, which may actually be a bit easier for me, as most of the proposed exercises are shorter bursts of energy versus extended endurance tests.

My official nickname here is "masterchief," both because of the project here and after this morning. Apparently being biggest guy here, being able to do "combat rolls" better than others and fireman carrying someone like a rag doll gets me that....my thighs hurt :(

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

lol, well it's a cool nick name :thumbsup, and fitting

when I was younger I was dead set on enlisting for the air force, but I struggle with simple math, so I ruled that out as well as anything else as I got older because, while I got taller, I also got thinner and now only weigh 110lbs, I could get carried off by a gust of wind :D

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Ugh, sick of idiots and sick of "playing the TRADOC game."

For the next 30 days, I will be losing 2 of my only real 3 hours of personal time after duty because some moron wants to go shining a laser pointer in people's eyes.

What does this mean? I won't have any real time to work on this when I'd like to. This is definatly gonna be my last 4 day weekend for the next month.

Only a month and half left here, too bad the majority of it will be wasting time at the expense of idiots that shouldn't even be here in the first place

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 09JAN2011: Visor installed!

Sorry to hear, we all have to deal with morons who drag the rest down, it's a shame that they have screwed up your weekend though as I know I'd kill one if they did mine.

Hope things look up soon :thumbsup
