Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 20APRIL2011 Helmet is 99.9% Done

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 11NOV Back on the helmet

and I will boot you all three times too

LOL I shall resurect myself everytime

Back to the topic at hand. I've went back and cleaned up the vent as much as possible, used a sanding disk, which helped out somewhat. As it stands, as to not continue my habitual forced corrections of trying to make something better and completly making it worse in the end, I'm gonna call this one vent finished. I'm just gonna leave it alone lol

Along with that, I made it over to the PX here and tried on some of the motorcyle lids here and determined that I'll need bare minimum a 2XL helmet liner to fit my noggin.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 11NOV Back on the helmet

Liner ordered, but sent it back home cause shipping it to here is like trying to send a man to Mars.

In other news, secured a battle rifle! Gonna get back to work on the helmet.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 11NOV Back on the helmet

More significant progress done (to me at least since it takes so freaking long!) Only stopped cause my dremel needs to recharge..

Just need to round out each section and clean clean clean! Some pits appeared, and this is what happens when you grab two packs of epoxy putty and the one behind it, although very similar, turns out to be an off-brand. Not much to worry about, just fill it back up.

Aside from that, I think it's turning out pretty well overall. I'm planning to get started painting by thanksgiving weekend (Going to be stuck on post anyways). Other than that, I just need to figure out what to do for my "head lights"

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 14NOV Back on the helmet

Alright! Started painting the helmet today! Got several coats of OD green on tonight and I feel it's looking really sharp! Gonna be going back tomorrow and adding the black paint then I'll begin weathering the entire thing.

I also got back to work on my AR. The magazine well is FINALLY cleared out...many many sanding drums later...Just need to close out some gaps between the rifle and the magazine so that when I put the mag in, it'll just fit snug. I'm still trying to figure how I'm gonna do these electronice, but after I can get the ammo counter assembled along with the face plate, I'm gonna re-attach the large piece I cut off, after I get the trigger permanently mounted and ALL the wires strung along through the mag well, where I've decided I'll be housing the batteries.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 25NOV Painting!

Gonna be updating soon. I've been out all night, almost went off a cliff (I wasn't driving!), got stalked by a weird dude that kept farting at the mall, kept running into the same 2 people at 5 different locations in the city, on top of a mountain :confused and then got pulled over after an hour of looking at overpriced items at a Hastings cause someone put a sticker over the car's tail light. It was a weird day...

Anyways, I got the black added, I'm gonna go clear coat it all now, then I'm gonna add all the weathering to tonight. Gonna be up for awhile.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 25NOV Painting!

Alright! Finally the day I've been waiting for with this helmet, finished being painted! I used the reference I posted earlier from the trailer, but strayed off from it for the most part as I wasn't too happy about my painting skills :unsure

So I did what I always do, but tried not to over-do it, and here it is.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Not too shabby.

Suddenly I'm not so happy with my own paintjob.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

great job on the paint job man.
can't wait to see that with the visor installed.

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

I think it's lookin great! Those subtle silver "scratches" just have to be there on a MC helmet! :)

I like the reworked vents or whatever you wanna call em. You guys really cleaned this baby up. ;)

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

the vents really did turn out great man i was kinda worried for a second. great work

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Thanks!

As for the paintjob, it's technically not accurate to the games in the sense of weathering. Its one thing about the design of MC in Halo 3 that despite having been all around the universe battling everything that shoots or whatever, that his armor has only one real visible scratch/damage, and thats on the chest piece. The helmet's paint looks impecible but they've managed to make the visor look dirty.

Realistically, I feel that weathering would be somewhat severe, but not quite, cause you figure the armor as an overshield protecting it from outward damage. IDK, I think I'm thinking too much about it..

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Arg, one detail I didn't paint black I just notice. The trailer version that I was going for just has the rectangular detail in black, where as the final halo 3 model has the top-center portion of the "snout" painted.

Not too big but just gotta do that tomorrow...

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

So my next focus is going to be the Assult Rifle. I've determined where I'm going to be placing the battery pack(s). The placement for that is going to be on the inside, against the butt stock, behind the mag well. I'm going to be contructing the mag well and placing it inside the rifle.

I'm going to be using these roller catch's as the method to hold the magazine in place. I am going to be using two roller catches, imbeding the female end in a trench on the top of the magazine, and the male end on the inside-top of the magazine well. For the electronics, I am going to place the reload bumper switch between the male ends of the roller catches, so that whenever I put the mag in, it'll "bump" the switch and "reload"

Hmm..need to draw this out..

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Ok, heres a quick diagram I drew up explaning what I was talking about above. Should be self explanatory.

Other than that, I painted black on the nose/snout portion that I had missed previously. Just need to weather it and its good to go. I'm probably going to go and seal the paint one more time too

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Last pic. I just painted the area I mentioned. Going to be bringing this home with me over exodus. I guess I can count it as my "personal item" on the plane :lol

Re: Halo 3 Master Chief WIP UPDATE: 27NOV Helmet painted!!

Got kinda bored today, but couldn't really do a whole lot since we were stuck in the barracks all day. I wanted to check the proportions and placement of the helmet on me. I was hoping to hav the helmet adjusted to a certain height, so that along with the boots, it'd put me at 7' give or take. Well the helmet after looking at the pics that I had someone else take, it's looking that I'm going to have to bring it down a bit just so that the front end covers my chin more. Got kinda stupid editing the pics, but I tell ya, make shift padding without the visor REALLY looks goofy...

From the front, I feel it looks fine, but from the side, you can definatly see how I need to bring it a bit down...Eh...
