Halliwax's weird V3 theory

Hopefully this helps explain my dilemma, and it may be un-solveable without more information

Do you think they packed the neck with grease, or did they use a bronze bushing. Or did they not even care about metal to metal contact??

I don't believe they ever got this one to spin, so likely no grease and no need for a bushing (is bronze nice for moving metal parts?)

so i should have been in bed hours ago, but Trent helped me gain access to the video chris told me about today and ive been obsessing over ever since.

this footage is right before the scenes we see on the boot leg tv documentary. can't see the 5mm screw in the emitter, but i swear that is gaffers tape on the neck...

Clampless V3 baby!!

Hamill is actually using the V3 as a microphone, talking into it then pointing it to the camera. i have ripped the actual file, but need to edit it. and some how share it exclusively here... someone reported my youtube channel for the bootleg video of the fake dl-44... i think you are allowed 3 strikes then out.. dont want to jeopardize it... also going to try and edit the video a few times in different speeds.

this last photo really shows how wonky this sucker is! more to come tomorrow

Trooper, Halliwax, thank you. The fact there's more to come is leaving me a little speechless.

One thing I did learn just from this - they wrapped the tapered blades with tape, just like Vader/ANH blades that Brandon shared with us. a rectangular strip put on a tapered blade leaves that pattern.

Finishing up right now for ya. Check this out man... wicked good footage of the blades!!

I watched the Documentary yesterday and when I saw this footage I knew you would love it :) There are also many other props in it from different angles and close up shots. Really worth to watch.

Yes bronze bushing is great. Tamiya has used them for decades in their RC kits. almost every early kit I build had bushings, now it all mini bearings. is there a thread on the spinning blades?

That golden/bronze shows up really nice.

That is a very rouded D ring - not sure if I've seen one of those yet, like a larger version of the V2 ring.

The gash might be paint caught in the seamline? or damage

Well ****, thats why Valu Home Centers has a whole section of bronze spacers

Also, yes, there are a couple, mostly the builder's personal projects (halliwax, mouse vader)

So maybe this has been discussed, and I missed it. But when and why did Luke's lightsaber get colored with a copper neck?

As far as I know, it came from whoever redecorated the V3 post production. They used orangey copper and the V3 was then used for toys, media, etc.

Doesn't help that the visual dictionary Luke ROTJ Hero is edited very dark, making the dirty brass appear copper.

Edit: also can see a metal nipple thing on this saber.

I thin

I think it starts with ANH painting them to sorta match the Obi-Wan hero, and it was a touch up game from there. It's most pronounced on the Yuma which is being painted fresh, and has gone from brassy to coppery. Then when it gets refined to the ISYHCANL they go full copper. And THAT's what all the toys and replicas get based on.

Not to muddy the waters more - but 2 things

1) are we sure this is the V3 with the separate emitter or could this be a different ANH stunt (there might have been more) with the emitter still attached? Any tells or nicks or dings on both this and the V3? D ring?

Is this a new D ring, would they go through all that trouble? The V2 still has its old bent D ring.

2) I noticed the other day not only does the pommel and emitter rotate on the V3 but the clamp also slides around. The booster grub screw/windvane grub screw are immovable, but seem to shift positions compared to the clamp. Theres this nick on the opposite side as the booster screw that all of a sudden aligns with the clamp

It's this 3 scratch mark on the booster

I was digging through the V2 lightsaber thread looking for images of things we thought were the V2 but aren't and it spurred me to do this. I know people are pretty sure the V2 was a seperately machined piece, and I'm inclined to agree. Even lathed and cleaned up (skinnier), I do not see the 2 close rings at the bottom of the grip section on the V2. I see it on all the others. The bottom shoulder above the clamp looks smaller on the V2

Though the windvanes don't look a whole lot different to me for the record lol
