Got my MR Vader......

...then I remember reading how another member figured he'd just get his regular plaque signed - u know add to the Whole "fun of the hobby" thing.... :p

In my experience, when people try to get someone to sign a "regular" plaque of an item they've already signed for a "Signature Edition", they're usually contractually-bound to not sign the "regular" plaque (or lithograph or... you get the point. ;) )

Hey Rod - I have to agree with Darth Bill on this one. We'll never know if the plaques match up to the helmet ... most likely not, wishful thinking, and all that ;)

It's not that this hadn't crossed my mind either ... my statement was really based on the "Honor System" in regards to MR Production, but I suppose that really is silly, isn't it?

Yeah, to set the record straight, I'd never call u silly. I hope u didn't take it that way.

I was just thinking "hmmmm, funny the lids aren't #'d too....", then I remember reading how another member figured he'd just get his regular plaque signed - u know add to the Whole "fun of the hobby" thing.... :p

that would be me but I don't want the plaque signed but the helmet...like inside the dome or neck piece. Or even better get a pic with them and the helmet signed., then you got proof and and sig..

The gates of Hell just opened up and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse are upon us...
Starting my repenting.... now. ;) :lol

At C3, I asked a certain "demigod" about how the dome attached to the master and he told me that you had to lower the dome off-center and rotate it into place.

The scratching aroung the center ring backs up that explanation.  :D

It also explains (to me) why they went the way they did....

I'm sure a decision was made that people would notice that their domes were scratching like that eventually and start weeping and wailing after the fact so they came up with an easier "drop'n'lock" solution to mounting the dome.  :D

I probably talked to the same "demigod" :lol Not sure about the "Off center" and "Rotate into place" though. At least based on the behind the scenes filming shot in the "DVD Vader Featurette". If you watch it slow, it appears that they lower the dome tilted forward, and slowly level it out as they and let it magnetically seat itself as it just clicks into place.

Either way though, I do agreee with you that MR changed the mounting system to keep ppl from whining about loss of paint through wear. Instead however, it backfired on them, because now they have ppl like me whining about it not being accurate :lol I do have a little pitty on MR, their heart was in the right place, but damn, Ya just can't please everyone . :lol

I actually like the method they chose. it's just not accurate ;) (whine)

FP

Why doesn't MR just come and post what they intend to do with their products on Prop forums and get feedback on stands for helmets, models & such. They spend enough times on the boards.Everytime I've logged on I see on of the MR accounts active.

Give various options of what they want to intend to do, this way the buyers will feel like they're part of the process and its good public relations. Then they don't have to put up with unhappy customers when they don't like something.

Well, yeah... but in a way that no-one should even know (or care) about.

You never see the top of the face anywhere during the actual movie.

I look straight on at my helmet and it looks exactly like it does when Vader's medical bed locks into place vertically....

Works for me. :D

Rod- relax bud, I wasn't taking offense to anything :lol When I said that it was "silly", I was actually being fairly generalized. I meant that "Anyone" that would put faith in the "Honor System" of production, is a little silly, myself included ;)

Well folks...mine was on the truck from NJ when they announced that these were being halted for shipment...that means mine was already en route.

Guess what? Nothing to report; it WAS attempted for delivery today but yours truly was unavailable during the time they tried.

No news until redelivery tomorrow. :(

Anybody that said theirs was coming today get theirs? If so, how do they look?

I recieved mine on Friday. Just saw the posts about poor paint and scuffs. Went over mine and couldn't find anything but the scratches on top of the dome(mine wasn't shipped in the bag either). A little polish and the scratches were gone. It looks great. Beats my old Don Post like a rented mule. I'm very happy.
Cheers,
Kevin

Received my Vader helmet this evening. It is too late to get a full inspection without natural light but I see that I have the same abrasions on the top and front of the dome. It is most unfortunate but I will say that I was really not sure I would like this helmet but much to my surprise I am loving it.

I also got my Special Ops helmet this day with damaged paintjob and without the envelope. No plaque, cert or anything else.

I've got a call into MR.

I know they'll make it right but it is a bummer to know that I have to deal with this.

Ok, as promised, a few pics of mine ... not great becuse I couldn't take these until after dark :lol

I took enough of them that you should be able to get some idea :lol

Good looking helmet bud..
Your sending that back...??... Are you nuts?? :lol
The little things you pionted I can just barely even see, and I only looked because you pointed them out and still are nothing really IMO.
Lynn

Here's mine. I used Novus fine scratch remover from my ABS trooper kit to remove the scuff on the dome. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Well , I had planned on getting a plain Clone helmet and Vader, but after hearing all these problems, I'll just forget it and get a fan made replica instead.

Same here. Just talked a friend in to dropping his order after he saw this.

FP, I can see what you mean about the barely-there in the first place widow's peak being "flat as a damn pancake". The helmet looks great overall though. I do wish I had taken pics of that proto at the kiosk when I had the chance now, just for comparison.

....nice lids, guys.....now I'm really itchin' to get mine in. If it's just a few buffable scratches...then I'll live with it....even though it pi$$e$ me off.
However, MR has still done a great job with the likeness.....looks spot on to the film used....has the ROTS look which is very different in its subtleties, IMO, as compared to an OT lid...

Nice. :thumbsup

Just got my Vader #240 today. The dome scratch is so slight, that a scratch isn't the word...more like minor superficial scuff that isn't deep at all.

I haven't inspected mine completely yet, but if this scuff is the only problem I have, then Novus' stock is gonna rise. :)

I would definately give the Novus scratch remover a try. Use the # 2 with a very fine soft towl and lightly buff it. Then use the novus # 1 to polish it to a shine. You may be able to recover the piece rather than go to the trouble of sending them back.

I have done the same for polishing the Narnia sword and working on the nautilus tail which was crooked. Once I have a new replica in hand, I hate to see it go myself.

Well, sadly, the scuff wasn't the only problem. :(

Had the chip "touch up" thing above the right eye on mine.

But...before I send this pup back, of course I'm going to try it on... I'm 5'8" & 145 lbs so, reckon 'ole Hayden and I are about the same little size (actually, I think he weighs more, especially in the film.) At any rate, this helmets seems to be made for us "vertically challenged" people...so here you go:
