GI JOE 2: Retaliation: Snake Eyes Costume Info Thread

Here is a pic of the back of the armor, pants, ect.....

Beat me to it mate. The zippers on the pants seem kinda weird.. as does the ridiculous heel on his boots...:wacko

But this is a great detail shot; mine wasn't going to be anywhere near this big, thanks!

wulongti - I am going to update my armor files to add the bicep, forearm and back pieces. I have a basic model shaped already that is very similar but I have been waiting on additional photographs to show better detail so I will have files to complete the whole armor suit.

To me, the pants look like modified BDU trousers, they just added the little buckles on the cargo pocket flaps, and the big arse zipper along the calf. The boots are weird, they're definitely not some sort of tactical boot like they were previously, maybe some sort of wrestling or martial arts shoe, or some other form of athletic type shoe; the lack of laces and the cover on the front will key to IDing them. I don't think that the heel can be used to help ID the shoe/boot, I think that it might be something that was added on (for whatever reason) by the costuming dept., I can't think of any reason to have that funky heel other than for the heck of it.

I hadn't noticed the funky sole on the boots before. Frankly, it reminds me of the weird boots that Robert Atkins draws on Snake-Eyes in the current IDW comics...

I know that the creators working on G.I.*Joe these days often treat the franchise as if it's taking place about 10 years in the future, to make the advanced technology more plausible, but even 10 years from now, I seriously doubt that military boots will look like that.

That bit on the heels is probably for some of the stuntwork. In my martial art, we often have to make some funky adjustments to keep from falling backwards. The tabs will give him just a tad more leverage when leaning back.

We've begun work on the Snake Eyes uniform, and others from 'Retaliation' as well, and we've done so going straight to the original costume makers. All patterns, hard parts, elements and details that make up this awesome suit are going to be replicated stitch-for-stitch straight from the actual costume patterns.:thumbsup

This is going to be a tough one, even with our resources but we're committed to quality and accuracy...and Snake Eyes deserves no less from UD Replicas.

Stay tuned...we're bringing this epic suit to life.:cry:lol

David, do you have any ball park on the cost of the parts, or total? Also will you be doing pants as they aren't leather? I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys produce, that plus cost will determine if it's worth it to make it myself :rolleyes

Yes, pants too. This is not exclusively a 'leather' contract license..nor are we bound to biker wear only. All materials required will be used, and these suits will be offered as high end movie replica uniforms.:cool

Sorry, too soon to comment on prices.

HELL YES! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Looks llike someone beat me to the new posters. There is also a awesome new Cobra Commander poster that came out the same time.

YES!!! The real Snake Eyes is back, that's how I remember him, without the stupid lips.
Can't believe I forgot to reply to this, but speaking only for myself (and many other G.I.*Joe fans) the definitive Snake-Eyes look for me has always been the classic Version 2 figure from 1985... pay close attention...

Right there you have the first appearance of both the "knight's visor" mask AND the visible mouth on the mask! ;)

Even the 25th Anniversary update of that figure kept that detail...

And it's also been seen on 12" figures...

Also, there was this, which I posted a few posts after your post...
At this time, I'd like to point out just where the first movie's suit design came from. Once you see the source material, the suit makes sense.

That suit's design was copied almost 100% from the paintings David Michael Beck did for Devil's Due Publishing about a decade ago:

SnakeEyesMovieComparison1.jpg

And during the opening action scene, the first time we see him in action, he's wearing an ammo pouch harness taken directly from Devil's Due's Snake-Eyes costume design for their modernized reboot G.I.*Joe Reloaded:

To be honest, I think they changed the costume a little TOO much for the new movie. I'm disappointed that they've eliminated the bandolier/baldric across the chest, as that's a signature look for Snake-Eyes. :unsure
So, all Rise of Cobra did is prove that what had worked on action figures, in comic books, and in painted artwork for almost a quarter century, does NOT look as good in real life. Nothing more, nothing less.

'Nuff said, True Believers! ;)

Anybody have a good ID on the pistol?

FYI, I'm reasonably sure his pistol in the one shot is an HK P30. The wedge-shaped rear sight is pretty unique, and this pistol is the 'evolution' of the HK USP that came with the action figure for ROC.

Now, where the heck is he hiding his holster???

The one thing that I really don't like about this picture is that for the first clear close-up picture of Snakes head, you can clearly tell that they've wrapped a motorcycle helmet in vinyle/canvas and that the didn't bother to do anything to the helmet vents or contour lines (above the eyes running up/back) - they basically just wrapped over the whole thing.

On screen it'll probably look fine, but I hate it when something obvious like that hits me right away when I look at something that's supposed to be professionally designed/built.

i think at the very least with the new mask, it might be easier for Ray Park to breath while wearing /fighting. Although I honestly dont know if he had any problem breathing in the other mask.

Dude, you ever worn a motorcycle helmet? It would be MUCH larger on his noggin if all they did was just wrap one up in pleather. Pretty sure those "contour lines" are part of the design. The detail just above the visor looks like the exact same "angry eyebrows" detail that was on the ROC mask.
