GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

I'm more of an angry fan at this point. I was very indifferent to the idea of a new movie. Frankly, I had faith in the fact that it could be good. Heck, I was the guy who was skeptical towards a mad max sequel.

Boy was I wrong about that one!

So I was indifferent, but hopeful.

Now I'm angry. I'm angry that if I don't like this, I'm suddenly a sexist who lives in his mom's basement. I'm angry that if I don't mind the fact that the new Ghostbusters are women (yet still don't like this) then I'm being a subconscious sexist.

I HATE being dismissed like that.

Never mind the fact that I could just be a person who likes good films and hates bad Hollywood trends.

So NOW I'm a super-defensive film fan who has spent more time talking and hating about this film than it even deserves.

Remember kids, it's only okay to pre-judge this movie if you're looking forward to it! I feel like the neighbor's dog is squatting in my yard for the 100th time and his owner is telling me I have to wait and see what comes out before I get frustrated.

welcome to my world ;o)

where you have a page long thoughtful response dismissed three times with 'I pity you'. why? because I actually have thoughts and feelings on a film that i hate see being destroyed? Because i'm on a forum where people tear apart the details of a model from flash gordon from 1930, yet can't understand why a nerd would have fun tearing something apart that is being made by people who don't care about the things you love?

I love how in this world, so many things are accepted now, but it's somehow still ok to make fun of nerds who hate the way how their movie and favorite franchise is being treated.

So yeah, I'm beyond angry at this point.
It's almost reached vandetta status to the point of never wanting to pay for a sony movie ever again. even ghostbusters stuff.
The Amount of childish behavior coming from the STUDIO on this is beyond insane at this point. and people are BUYING IT left and right!

Remember the days when people just ignored crazy folk?
Now it's more profitable to call them out, pay attention to them, and USE them as reasons why your bad movie will flop. and to hell with what everyone else thinks.

and, to top it all off, as westies says, you can only pre judge it if you're POSITIVE about it. it's Ok to say you're going to love it no matter what.

But, hate it? Hey, that's a land mine. I know what it'll do to me based on seeing what other land mines have done in the past...but, i've been told i can't pre judge that land mine based on what it's done in the past. I have to step on it to know it'll blow me up. no one sees the insanity in that?

and then you have these click bait articles stirring the pot. 500 articles, all reading the same, and some even just copying and pasting each other. too lazy to write nerd hate of their own, they have to steal in order to get people coming back to the comment section.

the circus is in town, folks. and it's only getting worse from here. personally, i blame the kardashians, but i do that for everything.

The other thing that pisses me off is when the industry tells us to lighten up...it's only a movie.

It's not just a movie. It's an industry. A system of art and culture. It's part of our history.

And not only that, but those people telling us to "lighten up" are the ones who NEED us to. Their lively hood depends on it.

Again, the difference between negative, where you make comments about why you won't watch the movie and then move on and hate, where you **** on the movie for months is NOT a fine line.

Isn't it a bit entitled to HATE the movie because it is not made specifically for YOUR fandom? What about the fandom that is looking forward to it? What about the new fandom that will able to see themselves in those characters and spark new fans?

We get it you hate it and your childhood is ruined because of it. Just move on to the next movie or reboot you'll hate.

you just watch. someone will post something that illustrates westies point perfectly ;o).

but yeah. this whole 'lighten up' attitude. and notice how it's ONLY used by the productions where people are doing it just for a paycheck?
or meghan fox and other actors telling fans that 'if you don't like it, * you?'

I guess with so many CASUAL fans or people just getting into it hopping on the band wagon, you no longer NEED to cater to the nerd audience that kept you alive for so long to be able to get to this reboot point.

either that, or so few people up and coming in hollywood just have no class.

The movie sucks,I haven't seen it nor will I because just the glimpse I have is plenty.

I don't care what someone says about me for that opinion,in the last seven-eight years I've noticed a trend on forums to insult and berate people who you don't agree with rather then discuss it or just walk off,at worst I've run into site staff who do it themselves and use their positions to be rid of people they and their circle of friends don't like so get used to this.

However this is the first time I've seen this behavior in the case of a movie,I suppose it was just a matter of time for the insanity to spread,at least the RPF allows us to say "this stinks!"

And trust me this movie will stink,in fact I'll be honest as I've said before I didn't like GBII,I thought it was a stupid movie but gawd help us we're about to have something worse.....

It's not "entitled". It's an instant, emotional, visceral and NATURAL reaction to negative stimuli. Yes, hate is natural, normal, and necessary, despite what they're pumping the snowflake citizenry full of at the unicorn academy these days. It's part of the universal system of checks and balances that SHOULD preclude crap like this even getting made. It's not open to debate or opinion. There are objective standards of good and bad. And, this is BAD. Right up there with rectal cancer. The most important decision you make right now is what you stand for...goodness, or badness. Now, how about a Fresca?

As for the "fandom" looking forward to it....that's why nature in its infinite wisdom created super-viruses.

I don't see this much back and forth on G.I. Joe or TMNT. I enjoyed the second G.I. live action film, hated the first one, but I don't see the constant arguing. Strong female leads are inherent to Joe though. And even that strength was debatable, since she used her sex appeal in a few areas as opposed to her skills.

I just don't get why people are so worked up. Do lighten up!

If you think it's crap from a few trailers, don't go watch it. If it's ruined a part of your childhood, that's unfortunate, because in order to do that, IMO, they would have to go back in a time machine and literally replace all those awesome shows with something far worse whilst reminding how awesome the stuff I currently have is actually far more awesome.

If you think people are too worked up over it, get over it. As long as they don't harass you directly, I think we'll be fine.

Hard reboots for G.I. Joe, TMNT, and we shall see how GB does. But people will go see this stuff. Hell, 4tastic 4 is gonna keep on keeping on. So will GB. Fanbases, are fanbases, they have to hope...

I don't think you can even fairly compare GI Joe, Star Trek or TMNT to Ghostbusters. None of those stories are deliberately leaving their original characters - their decades' long-established title characters - out of the narrative. The segment of fandom who is excited about this, who may be inspired by this, whatever the case may be, could have had that inspiration from any otherwise-branded story of a similar nature. The problem here is not that they made a movie which some people might enjoy and others won't, the problem is that they took a great franchise and wiped the slate clean for no reason (or worse, for the purpose of courting a director who kept turning down the job).

Entitled? Youre talking about entitled? The reason why this movie is being made is to ride the coattails of the original, so yeah, fans of the originals are "entitled" to hate on this train wreck. The only reason there is a "fandom" for THIS movie is because either there are such hardcore Ghostbuster fans that they will watch ANYTHING(looking at you Jettajeffro), or the SJW's(I hate how thats even a thing) are rallying behind this movie JUST BECAUSE the cast is made mostly of women. And, I might add, anyone that sees this movie OTHER than a blatant cash grab by the studio has blinders on. Its kind of ridiculous.

I also dont think its fair just because you hate or dislike something it makes you some insane person. Like someone else mentioned, its natural to hate things, there cant be love without hate. And man. This cinematic abortion deserves your hate, and yeah, I dont need to pay money and sit through it to know that. I dont need to put a turd in my mouth to know it tastes like ****.

You really can't compare this to gi joe or tmnt. Those are adaptations from a franchise. You can reboot those as much as you want. The same goes for any comic book series. By design, they are made to be rebooted

Like star wars, Ghostbusters was a film first. That means there is a much narrower margin that you should follow to stay credible.

Making movies are cash grabs? Do people even know what Hollywood is about? Have there been many professional movies made just for "fans" or are movies really made to bring PROFIT to the studios.

I also dont think its fair just because you hate or dislike something it makes you some insane person.

If people ranted like this about almost any other subject I think people would call it "insane". Ask yourself (in the general sense not you in particular Snikt) do you go on this much about other topics?

I think the reason a lot of people aren't letting it go is because people that have legitimate criticism against the film are labeled as "man children" "haters" "sexists" etc etc and while there are some involved that do act that way, those that have good reasons behind why they don't like this film and what they've seen of it are lumped in with that crap for no good reason. People like James Rolfe who stated legit reasons he doesn't care to watch or review the movie are attacked by ****** celebs that want to get a dig or two in on him simply because they don't like his opinion. That is disgusting. That kind of crap is why people that don't like what they've seen of this movie and give legit reasons as to why, and not "I don't like women in the cast" reasons are tired of being told how terrible they are for judging a movie based on previews, which is what every sane person does with every movie ever, for or against it. There's nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of films with female leads that people, men and women love, but for some reason criticizing this movie leads to people saying stupid crap that people that don't like it are sexist and can't handle female leads. That's crap and people are tired of being told to shut up and go away when they have a negative opinion on a film, particularly this one.

Read my second post in this thread... I was all for giving this a chance! I really was!

At this point I'm saying that this flat out looks like the worst movie addition to any franchise that I've ever witnessed.

Worse than the prequels multiplied by new trek to the turtled power!

From the props and costumes, to the advertising and trailers.

It's not because I'm narrow minded, a feminist, or that I don't like change. It's not that I'm against a new generation that maybe I'm just not in touch with...

It's because... THIS GENUINELY LOOKS LIKE PURE THROWN TOGETHER AGENDA PUSHING GARBAGE with a name slapped on the front. Nothing more.

Sorry for yelling. I really just feel that this is the biggest disservice to any franchise that I've ever imagined.

I've NEVER prejudged a movie like this in my 39 years... But I KNOW I'm not going to like this. And it has nothing to do with the cast.

Just the usual insane troll comments. She hosts the Ghostbusters "Yes Have Some" Podcast, which also gets trolled non-stop.

AH. OK.

I asked because, I agree, that she seems to just be a fan who is interested in this movie. I really don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. Those who do, surely are just trolls.

Except that you didn't actually LINK any of that. You linked a post that had no comments and like...10 likes. So...you know someone who wants to see this movie. Thrilling. I think there are people right here in this thread who want to see the movie. It's not THAT rare.

It was like watching someone build a straw man with grass. Use straw! There's TONS of it around and it's free.

As for "Entitled". Not for nothing, but...we actually ARE entitled to hate movies. Seriously.

I know that's the go-to insult online right now, that people are acting entitled...but in this case, they really are entitled to that particular right.

Now...it may be more mature to just let it go. But...since you're also still here, also not letting it go, at least we're not alone in that.

My fear of the movie being terrible is still strong, however I just bought Twinkies with the GB logo on the box and I'm ok with that. Granted they should have done that with Zombieland. Still looking for Slime filled ones.

and people like to conveniently forget all the female action heroes that ARE loved by men around the world.

B'ellana torres and captain janeway are two of my favorite action heroes ever created. man or female.. both women. When they brought in Boobs of Nine for the obvious sex appeal, you can bet I was just as upset as the actresses on the show where, who worked so hard to build respectability. and then, all that was undone by the network in one fell silver suited swoop. the show became unwatchable with seven on board.

but no. because I hate this movie, i'm an insane fan who lives in the basement, gets told to take out the trash, is a beared man baby and.....god, i've forgotten all the insults thrown my way just for having an opinion on something that should never have been conceived of in the first place.

and I have to ask myself. Why THIS movie? why NOW? why is all the crazy happening NOW, other than the fact that the two ADMITTED femenists in power HAVE the Power and funds to turn the tide their way with all this pre scripted pre bought article stuff?

and studio plants everywhere, for that matter, monitoring it all?

Only problem is it's tougher to ferret out the plants than it is the obvious narrative being spread out....

but, as someone else pointed out. at least HERE, we are able to say it, so long as we go reasonably. OTHER places on the net, they are actively deleting and re writing history so as to paint certain people in a certain light. i'd name them, but it'd go against forum rules...but they are easy enough to spot. You can also go on youtube and see which comments sony themselves are deleting, and which ones they are leaving up. at this point, people are having fun with it ;o).

and THAT is why fans can't let go and why we feel ENTITLED to make a point about it. it's wrong. it's crazy, and it doesn't deserve your support.

it's as simple as that.

and when this movie is done, and the next abomination comes along, I will bring my non bearded man baby self to that argument too.

It's what fans do.
