GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

Just watched the 1984 movie in the theater (and left before the reboot preview they announced would be shown after the credits, of course). What a great flick! If this is the 4k remaster they're releasing for home video this summer, the resolution will be worthwhile to the prop community. Color seemed a bit magenta at times, but overall well-balanced.

My theater showed the super grainy 2011 transfer during the Fathom event, which I found really strange considering the newer transfer is so much nicer. Always fun to see it in a crowded theater, though!

saw it last week at 2. Our theaters showing was a tad blurry looking.

you mean you DIDN'T stay to see oh so confident about his reboot paul feig stumble through the introduction like a kid giving a speech in front of the class? and then stay to a stunned silent theater, only broken by someone saying 'what the hell was that?'

I saw this on my news feed and thought of you. GOD I HOPE people vote with their wallets, and there is NOT enough of a die hard fan base that can get this to make more than two million..

Saw it tonight. Stayed and watched the new movie stuff. There are some slightly funny things, but they are still so forced its unbelievable, and the things that aren't funny at all are like trying to eat sand. You just don't want it. It all feels like a bad parody.

Why would you remind the viewing public of the classic original to promote the new version that no one has a positive thing to say about ?

when there's something strange, and you're not sure who's going to show up to see your reboot in your neighborhood....who you gonna call to try and recoup even a MILLION of those 150 million losses?

So they are still using the original movie to promote the new movie... Unbelievable. :facepalm

i'm wondering how much it grossed in the box office, and hope it's enough to out gross the new movie. our theater only had about 6 people in it..but it was a 2pm showing.

Ours was also 2PM, and it was the only showing. The theater probably had 30-something attendees. It's not outgrossing any wide-release movie, but I still hope and believe GB2016 will tank.

ughhhhhh...those poor saps.
any time i see feig and mcarthy near a ghostbusters logo, i want an audio gif of kevin murphy's wretching sound from the rifftrax episode 1 commentary.

Making movies are cash grabs? Do people even know what Hollywood is about? Have there been many professional movies made just for "fans" or are movies really made to bring PROFIT to the studios.

If people ranted like this about almost any other subject I think people would call it "insane". Ask yourself (in the general sense not you in particular Snikt) do you go on this much about other topics?

Yes, as Westies pointed out, thank you for condascendingly reminding us that yes, the film industry is in fact a business. If you want me to define what a cash grab is, Im not going to, Im sure you have google. Youre kidding me right? You think the influx over the last decade of super hero films arent made for "fans"? Why do you think those were even made? Because, if done properly, people would come out in droves to see those movies, which they have, in turn, to make money. The reason they adapted those is because there is an existing fanbase. And, the movies converted many people into fans that werent before they saw the movie, i.e. Deadpool. The reason why this is a cash grab, is that they are RELYING on the nostalgia factor to bring in money, because Feig and Wiig/Macarthy are the flavor of the week right now. Its so formulaic that I dont see how you didnt see what I meant, or that you do, and youre just trying to troll me.

Cmon Karmajay, this is the internet. I peruse this forum cause Im bored at work. And no, I dont, in real life, go on about topics like this. Thats why Im on here. ;)

Snikt wins the thread!!!

I think 100% of us that are complaining in this thread WANT this to be a fun and watchable movie! I'd say at least 90% of us don't care that it's all women. And 75% don't care that it's THIS cast in particular.

I'd say 98% of us can tolerate there being a gear towards the young generation and we generally tolerate it in most all modern entertainment.

Problem is..... This looks worse than aweful. I can't just SEE that there is no real love or soul to this production (like there was in the original) I can smell and even taste it.... (POOP)

And again, great to the point post Snikt! QFT!!!

Edit: Oops, I posted this in the wrong spot somehow. I didnt realize there were 2 threads dedicated to the new GB movie. I dont know what happened.

that's ok.

I've noticed that MOST, note i didn't say all as there ARE people who will try to defend it with logic, people who support this film can only support it by going after the detractors. it's ok, you get used to it after a while ;o)

but told you someone would post something that perfectly illustrated westies point ;o)

the new poster for this film.
not the worst thing they could put out there..

god those packs look terrible small.
if they where going to go the small route, they could have at least adapted the idw arm cannon design.

That poster is the best thing I've seen so far!

I think the main ingredient this film is missing is grit and a hint of scare... Not "DARK" just a lil bit grounded in reality.

Instead of cartoony scooby doo with added poor taste, poorly placed, potty humor.

all I can say to this is, Spain will be totally gobsmocked with the bait and switch if they didn't put that at the end.
this has to be the WEIRDEST ad campaign for any movie ever created.

notice how slimer 'exploded' as was leaked earlier?

Hollywood is nothing more than a business. We either buy the product or we don't. It is entertainment but behind the curtain it's nothing more than a business that, for all intent and purposes, uses celebrity to sell a product. Sadly, more often that not, Hollywood green lights a "brick" and it sinks straight to the bottom no matter what celebrity may be involved. The worst part is that with social media, we're no longer "allowed" to agree to disagree. For some, if your opinion is different from theirs then the name calling and demonization of said opinion begins. It makes no sense.

For me, this movie lacks every reason why I want to go to the theater - it looks utterly disastrous! It has nothing to do with an all female cast. What did it for me was not only the low brow humor (you can be funny without sinking to the gutter) but the addition of the original cast and reducing them to cameos. Why even bother at that point? If you're going to reboot something then reboot it and exclude the very element that made the original film so endearing and wonderful to most of the fans.

Funny how they say this isn't for the "fans" and yet if you cut them out you may very well tank, the whole reason X-Men did so well when it came out all those years ago was fans so if you don't consider them you may shoot your foot off.
