GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

I know a whole lot of kids excited about this.
...

I am really happy for you that you can stay so positive.

From a parent´s perspective who is a huge Ghostbusters fan and collects toys I must say that the "role playing toy" in the video is in my opinion a really weak product. It projects a silhouette of a figure on the wall and you have to change the figure for a new silhouette. There is no real "ghost busting" feature, it simply projects stuff onto surfaces.

This here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7shfgfPJv4 is what I call a real ghostbusting game.

The merchandise IMO does not really help to instill any hope that the new movie may be above average.

I actually have that game myself. The Visions of Johnny the Skull. Certainly considered putting the guts of the gun in a toy wand. I still managed to bust a lot of ghosts in my day with the Kenner pack with no projections, never had that separate projector toy myself. I think kids today still got some imagination in them.

The quality of merchandise doesn't really tell you anything one way or the other about the quality of the film itself. What will, however, be interesting is whether the nature of the film is such that parents feel comfortable with their kids seeing it. E.g., will the humor be too racy/raunchy, or will it be something audiences think is appropriate for kids. I have no idea on that score, by the way. It's just a question that I think will be interesting to see answered, particularly since Sony seemed to believe at one point that this could be the franchise to launch 1000 spin-off products.

i'm trying to remember what caught my interest with the original back in 1984...but I can't think that far back to happy kidom..
about only early memories I had where being scared of the library ghost, and terror dog possession scenes.but i still watched it.

the original wasn't really a kids movie. it wasn't until the cartoon came along that the merchandise really started to hit.
and I can't see them making a cartoon out of a paul fig newton movie.

the only reason it has any merchandise at all is because of the ghostbusters brand.

Exactly what our head nerd @NeilT and expert on all stuff GB and late 80ies early 90ies animation wrote. I do not remember seeing many GB toys as a teen. I do remember a board game, and I think a carnival kiddie pocket pinball game, but that is it. Or was there more? Oh yeah, the Commodore C64 Game!

there where a few T-Shirts and the Atari game too, but I don't remember all that much at least as far as the initial movie release goes.

another great entry detailing all the true, and rumored facts about FeigBusters.

they should update the other video to show that raystantz on reddit had his account deleted.

With the boss being received badly, I wonder if this bombs, will mcarthy's fading star survive?

I don't know what it is about her, but ever since she really came on the scene with mike and molly, she came off as annoying.

less than three months to go before this disaster hits. never wanted time sped up so badly or a movie leak to happen ;o).

I will never ever (probably) see her as anything but "Sookie"

does anyone else find it odd they are making kids toys for this movie?

They made plenty of kids toys for Terminator 2, an R-rated film ;)

I was going to say, in the 80's it hadn't made it to 'movie must have boatload of toys at release status'. That's really more of a recent thing...mid/late 90's onward. Today, seems like every damn movie put out comes with a crap load of toys. So, I take it to mean nothing these days. It's usually the stuff the really believe will be big hits that they put the stuff out months before the movie.

Still, i've seen toys on the rack next to disney (mickey mouse type disney) stuff like Spawn, Terminator, Alien(or whichever version), and other rated R flicks that had me thinking WTH are these doing in a kids toy store?

If it's PG-13 or R, it's like the same old stuff he does and not for younger kids. If they land a PG it should probably be fine.

I'm willing to bet more adults these days brows the aisles than kids...so that aisle has also changed in the last few years.

but, that being said.. it's still a paul feig movie. most of his stuff isn't suitable for adults, let alone kids.
so marketing to the 5 year old crowd this time around is a bit weird.

Then again, when you see Fig Newton tweeting photos of 5 year old girls with their dads and the dad saying 'my daughter wants to be just like you..'
You wonder which paul fig newton movie he showed her. Bridesmades with the sink scene..or Spy where the guy got his throat dissolved.

just another bit of weirdness in a weird situation...

(and I hope that was no one here who tweeted that, to add to the weirdness ;o)

There was actually quite a bit. More than most people realize. Aykroyd and Murray said they didn't want their likenesses on much merch with the original film. Pre-RGB, there were lunch boxes, video games, coloring books, a few ghost-related toys, model kits, multiple novelizations, kids-themed spinoff books, Making-of books, coloring/activity books, birthday party plates/napkins, coffee mugs... I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. After RGB hit, the merch blitz hit and Aykroyd/Murray changed their tune with GB2.

There was even a scene in early drafts of GB2 that references the complete merch juggernaut that GB was at that time.

Maybe the father was referring to Feig's generally positive, happy-go-lucky demeanor? Possibly Feig's successful career in a cool industry?

It's not shocking in the least that Sony is licensing out the property for merchandise. They've been doing it for ages. The title is back in the limelight with the new movie, so of course they're going to try to get the name out there as much as possible.

Ghostbusters 2016 isn't Bridesmaids or Spy. The original Ghostbusters wasn't Animal House, Porky's, or Stripes. It seems like you're really grasping at straws for things to complain about with this film.

...and Fig Newton? Seriously? Do you not think calling the director names is a bit rude and childish?

No more so than feig and pascal. or some of the other head idiots in charge of this thing.
No wonder Reitman was spotted moping around the sony lot in a bad mood having to deal with that lot.

I'm just having fun trashing relentlessly on this thing any chance I get. at this point I don't really care how it sounds, grasping at straws or no.

because after all I've read on how it came down, honestly, it deserves it at this point.

That 5 year girl got to do a set visit and have her reboot pack her dad made for her signed by the cast. Don't worry, the trolls thoroughly tore them apart online afterwards.

So... If everyone that has a negative feeling about this movie is a troll...

That means the only people who are not trolls are those involved in the making or marketing of this waste of celluloid and digital storage space.

No ghostbusters fan that I've seen has the level of optimism that you have...

Do I remember you posting about doing an event for the movie? I apologize if I'm remembering wrong...

I'm sorry, I think those girls are funny. But these trailers, which normally show the best of the best of a movie (think the phantom menace) were absolutely CRINGEWORTHY.

Star Wars episode1 in it's entirety... only inappropriately touched my childhood...

The trailer alone for feigbusters needs to talk to Chris Hanson about my childhood...

They are out there, trust me.

Although most of the supportive people I loosely know work in the industry and have had worked on ghostbsuters projects in the past.
I've noticed almost all people associated with media and fan sites mysteriously support this thing, and some are equally vicious about it as the 'haters'.
One fan site even went so far to defend the reboot aspect asking 'anyone know if robin williams is around for the jumanji remake?' that was a little cruel.

I wish I could be as positive..
And I kind of used to be not as...attacking...of things that I didn't have a positive view on.
Until I got F Bombed by one of the staff members of the new turtle series for voicing a negative opinion on a character and basically got told 'go to hell and back'.
with all my disagreements with peter laird in civil discussion, he was always curious as to why my opinion was the way it was rather than getting angry about it. you know, actual discussion.

this guy, however, totally lost it and had a meltdown..
Of course, I found out fans had been attacking him far far worse than the simple things I said about a characters design....so I guess he kind of lost it..but still.

after that level of un professionalism....I don't mind letting loose a bit. especially on stuff that deserves it. Bay Turtles and FeigBusters are my main targets these days. JJ Trek falling close behind.

So, hey, that's really cool that Paul Feig made time to meet with a little girl and pose for a picture with her, and have the cast sign her prop. That's great. It's also great that there are more hero-figures for girls these days to look up to and/or pretend to be. All of that is to the good.

But none of that has to do with what may go very wrong with this film. Most of the pre-release info that I've seen about it just...doesn't seem that inspiring as a movie. And at the end of the day, if the movie itself just isn't that good, does the fact that it's populated with female heroes somehow make it better? I don't think so, or else we'd all be signing the praises of the 1984 Supergirl movie. But we don't, because that movie was terrible.

This movie may be terrible. Or it may be great. Or it may just be...y'know...another movie that's neither great nor terrible, and is just another middling comedy that's quickly ignored. My bet is on the latter.

cinemacon stuff.

how long before someone uploades movie footage? doesn't sound like anything more than what we've seen..

If I didn't know anything about these idiots, I might laugh at mcarthy's reaction a little...but other than that, this entire video just came off as akward.
like they are standing waiting for a school photo to be snapped awkward.

lol...sarcasm HO!

It just drives me nuts that people will attack kids and say some pretty terrible things about them just because they're excited about the film, drives me up the wall. I get it everyday so you can definitely direct it at me and it'll roll off. I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me. When the film cast made that hospital visit and got roasted for it it certainly struck a nerve with me because when me and my GB team have done hospital visits, we also get roasted too. That was probably what turned my attitude about the film, and yes, I got to tell that to Paul Feig in person. I'm one of the many Ghostheads in the Ghostheds documentary, which yeah, I am probably more excited about it than the reboot because it shows what the fandoms about.

The reboot certainly isn't the film I waited 30 years for and it will of course not live up or surpass the originals, however, I'm certainly going to give it a chance. Ivan and Dan didn't go through all the trouble to establish the Ghost Corps division of Sony for just this film. They're working on a lot including an animated film. I hope it all gets off the ground but we'll see. I'd defintely prefer a new cartoon series myself.

Should all of this already happened 20 years ago? Yes! Am I excited it's finally happened? Yes! Do I wish it was in the same continuity as the original films? Yes! Is its existence going to destroy my childhood? No. Does Paul Feig have a time machine to go back to 1987 when I was pushing my Kenner Ecto around on the floor and come step on it? No.

Jeffro. I totally understand everything you are saying. And getting that lil girls pack signed is really awesome.

But as for feig not being able to go back in time and step on your ecto1...

From what I can now remember... He did mine!!!

:p

My biggest hope is that this movie doesn't make female fans ashamed to be fans...

Licking the guns like they are... Yeah...

What is this garbage? And why does anyone see this as a GOOD thing for female actors?

Because she WANTED to lick the gun,as opposed to being told to by a man?

I don't get what some are holding onto...

This is bad...

For fans.

For women.

For anyone that pays to see it.

The only way I would see it in theater is if this thread turned on its head 180 and it had a 100% on rotten tomatoes..

People can say that you can't judge a movie before its out...

I say that you can't judge how GOOD it's going to be... But when it looks THIS BAD... You CAN judge how bad it will be.

Case in point:

Jungle book- fun movie to amazing.

GB 2016- somewhere between tolerable and the worst thing since... The plague?

Well, that's my pre-preview and prediction!
