Ghostbusters movie by Paul Feig

:wacko It's not my rule! Feig told Amy Pascal that in order for him to participate, Sony MUST allow him to start from scratch (reboot).

Ok, that's not really clear from your phrasing, but if that's your intent, I retract my posts related that that comment.

"Feig ... insists that the previous iterations be thrown out with it. He MUST start from scratch...at that point, Amy Pascal should have said "we'd like to consider the story first, and probably keep continuity with the old films unless there's a great reason not to as we explore the story."

Tremendously vague. :unsure

Considering that you were vacillating back and fourth between trying to rehash history through your own lens and inserting your personal commentary; yes, it is vague.

There are some major updates from the set of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, including the casting of Michael K. Williams, Andy Garcia, Cecily Strong, Matt Walsh... and news anchor Pat Kiernan. Feig has also been having fun on Twitter, giving out more info about the new Proton Pack.

But first, the actors. According to The Wrap, Andy Garcia is playing the Mayor of New York, a role played by David Margulies in the 1984 original. (To recap though, this new Ghostbusters is a completely new story from the Ivan Reitman original and stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.) Williams, best known for his role as Omar on The Wire, is a character named “Hawkins,” Strong (of Saturday Night Live fame who had previously been rumored) is an unknown character, Walsh (currently on Veep) is “Rourke” and Kiernan, a newscaster for NY1, will play himself.

I think the heart sticker is more analogous to "Hi There" written on the bomb in Dr. Strangelove - an ironically cutesy addition to a deadly nuclear weapon. The post you're referring to bothered me because it only assumed that the heart was an unironic gesture made purely to "girl" up the film.

The "Hi there" and such is a common thing that was done in times of war by soldiers for ordnance being dropped on the enemy. They would frequently paint messages on the ordnance. It was done as part of a coping mechanism for the fact that they were about to kill hundreds or thousands of people. It wasn't an 'ironically cutesy addition' because they were a bunch of guys. A pink heart on a trifoil of the proton pack IS a cutesy addition to what would be the central prop of the entire film that is there to solely remind us that this is women in the role. And it's really pathetic and indicative of exactly what to expect from the crapfest coming.

Holy hell, that pack looks terrible! I simply can't hate on this film enough. I wish I had an emoticon that puked a bit more violently to properly convey my disdain :sick

I honestly would be a lot more forgiving if it WAS tied in with the original...

Like, there's been NO ghosts for 20+ years. These ladies stumbled apon something, had to make due with what they had...

Yeah, still lame, but better than a reboot!!!

I sat and talked to Ernie Hudson at dinner almost 10 years ago for about 2 hours.

The script he had read at the time was the multiple dimension NY with "hell" etc. Was top secret at the time, but I think we're safe now! (Yes Murray was the reason THAT version didn't happen)

Man... I soo would rather have that!!!

it would have been like one of the be tter slimer and the real ghosbtuster episodes with alternate dead versions of the ghostbusters.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here, just because I have a bit of a different outlook on this movie, I believe.

I was 13 when the 1st film came out, & I saw it probably 100 times or more on HBO during the next summer. Seemed like it was always in the background. I was 'too old' for toys when the cartoon premiered, but I had a 5 year old nephew that always got a GB related toy from us, so I enjoyed playing with him when we were there. Since growing up, I've bought almost every release of the film on each new format. I've bought the IDW comic series. I've bought the cartoon series, & tried in vain for several years to get a complete collection of the EXTREME GB series. I say that to give a bit of my background with the property.

I will be as close to the front of the line as I can when this movie opens, simply because I am a fan of, not only the incarnations I've mentioned above, but because I'm a fan of the CONCEPT that GB has put forth. If I was a Reitman, Akroyd, Ramis ONLY fan, then I'd have missed out on some great stories. Not all of them are aces, but some are better than GB2, & that was made by ALL the original participants, & even then concessions were made to tie in closer to the RGB cartoon series & therefore bring in more cash for the studios (i.e. Janine's hair & glasses, Winston's lack of a mustache, & more Slimer). I'm sure many here are such fans, that if we had a concept of a situation put before us, & then were asked how each of the 4 original characters would react, we'd probably all be pretty close to each other in our ideas. While I would LOVEto see all the old gang together again, the idea of 4 NEW characters in some familiar situations is very exciting to me.

I may dislike a character, but I'm adult enough to know that the actor is not that person, & unless they're Johny Depp, there are several factors, from the studio brass to the director to the editor, that shape what I see on the screen. Same goes for directors final calls. One just needs to look at ALIEN3 or Blade Runner to see what studio influence can cause.

I guess I really wish there was a thread where those who were happy & excited about the film, could discuss it without the negative. This thread has evolved/devolved from hate for the movie, the idea, the director, the cast, the studio, & the props, to simple hate for each others words & opinions, & I for one believe that 98.7% of this forum is better than that.
