Garruk Wildspeaker

Hey guys,
Been wanting to do this for a while and I've made some progress so I thought I would share!
For those who do not know of him, Garruk Wildspeaker is a planeswalker from the Magic the Gathering universe. Below are the reference photos I'm going off of.

They all have similarities and differences. I'm aiming more for the first one.
Below I have the chest harness, cape and then the belt with fur skirt and front flap.
These are works in progress, still need to smooth the edges and darken them to match.

Chest Harness (Needs decor)

Cape(Needs shoulder spikes)

Harness (Needs disc up front and color on the triangular flaps)

That's all for now. Going to start working on the arm and leg armor in EVA foam. The helmet is going to be interesting. Were getting a 12"x12"x18" 3D printer at work, if I can use it... things will be amazing!

Thanks for reading!

Hey Guys,
Been super busy with work and have had a little time here and there to work on this. I stated earlier that we would be getting a 12"x12"x18" 3D printer that I am able to use!!! I started modelling his helmet using Blender(Free awesome 3D design program!) and used a headscan of myself as reference :) I printed a smaller version of the helmet with only one tusk to see how it would print the whole thing.

This is what it looks like straight from the printer.

It prints it layer by layer from the bottom, what your seeing are supports around the top of the helmet.(I printed it upside down)

This is what it looks like with most of the supports removed(Hired Yoshi to do some modelling for me)

What your seeing on top are "rafts" that are a little harder to remove on a small object, the rest of supports came off pretty easily. The eye holes I couldn’t get free without feeling like I was going to break it. The tusk got a little messed up towards the tip but I'm hoping it will be cleaner on the larger scale version.

Tonight I'm going to increase the scale and print with both tusks doing a low resolution version(means it will be brittle and hollow) so I don’t waste precious material.

That's all for now!

Finally got to print a size that fit me, might have gone a little too large but I'm gonna go with it lol.
This is what it looked like when finished.

This is what it looks like after removing the supports. Also did a quick mockup of the lighting im going for.

Next step is to sand and paint it. Gotta get crackin on it, NYCC is less than a month away!

Looks like you've made some great progress thus far! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

Well almost a year later and we finally got the 3D printer working and I have some progress!

Left side we have the right arm armor, middle is the left shin guard, bottom middle is the chest medallion, and right side is the right shin armor. All modeled by me and 3D printed in the Makerbot Z18.

BEARD! I started growing it for this cosplay lol
I reprinted the helmet without the horns and added vents to the top so it doesn't get as hot and sweaty! I'm going to print the horns separately so I can experiment with different lengths( If I looked down with the older helmet it stabbed me in the chest)
This helmet also fits A LOT better more like how Garruk's fits so I'm happy with that!

This bad boy is the left forearm armor. I did temporary straps to see how it fit and size and I'm relieved that I pretty much nailed the scale!

Sorry for the bad quality picture, no one was around to take one for me!
I did a majority of the leatherwork needed for the armors. Waiting on some belt buckles to make it easier to strap these bad boys on! Can't really show the leg armor yet but when I get better pictures I'll be sure to post but for now have an angry one!
