Got my grips on. They're not QUITE perfect, but they're as good as I'm likely to get them. Drill? Or just glue screw heads to the grips in case I simply HAVE to adjust them later?

Looks great! It's amazing how t-tracks, alone, make it seem more lightsabery.
For me, I'm leaning more towards glueing just the screw heads on, & not drilling holes at all. Should I change my mind later, it'll be an easy fix.

Well After 15 months and 15 days My graflexs showed up yesterday with my Episode V kit. And i tell you what i am sooooooooooooo Happy. If i ever meet Roman in person i am going to get him a hug. Thanks for making a kids dream of owning a "real lightsaber" possible. I can't wait to get started putting these together.

I hate to bring up an old wound, but has anyone (who is happy with their flash) tried any of the available blade holders (Solos Hold, KR Sabers, etc)?

Ok I bit the bullet and drilled my ESB kit. Some tips:
1. The grips are rock solid. That tape is STRONG. I drilled one, tapped it, inserted the screw, did the next. Never came close to overheating and loosening the tape.
2. If you need to remove and adjust a grip in Roman's kit, floss works. I still have one every so slightly wonky grip, but hey, it's an imperfect world.
3. The screws in Roman's ESB kit are 6-32. You'll need to drill with a #36 bit to tap them. Unless you're a masochist and want to fiddle with nuts.
4. If you mis-align the d-ring, making the holes in the Kobold bigger will give you the wiggle room you need to fix it (oops!)
5. I used ammonia fumes for one hour to age the pins, fyi.

And now I'm done clogging this thread up with stupid questions and random pics. It ain't perfect, but it's mine and I'm glad I drilled the freaking holes. Thanks again Roman!

I had a big plastic jug (protein powder) and I just poured like a half inch of ammonia in it, suspended the top half of the graflex over it with a "rope" of folded duct tape through the clamp L notches, twisted the lid on, and waited an hour. Easy peasy

I am anxious to see if Roy's clamp card fits in my Roman's. I can't wait to get the stuff from Wannawanga. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to receive stuff from him? I ordered on the 9th.

The clamp on Romans replica Graflex is closer to the vintage than his other clamps you buy separate, I have them both and compared them to a vintage, the clamp you order separate is actually bigger and does not close up in the clamp card area as much as a vintage or his replica.

Just got my ESB kit! Anyone know if I put the grips on, THEN drill holes, if the heat will screw up the adhesive and make it move or anything? Anyone done an ESB that way? Also the card has an ESB A and B side...is one more accurate to a particular scene or something?

Some info for others in this situation. This is what I do with the plastic T tracks. Make your grips first, do the cut outs, make a mitre jig, saw each end of the cut out, use masking tape to protect the two bottom flat sides of the T track, then put into a vice and uses a mill file to file out the cut out, then get a standard razor run a bur down the edge and scrape it flat. Mark and drill the holes in the grips, use some double sided tape and put all the grips into position, uses a permanent marker and mark the 3 cell bottom through the drilled holes, take the grips off, take a drill bit and by hand turn it on a mark to make a indent point so when you go to drill it has a location point and does not slip off. (Should uses a drill press) I would then remove the double sided tape, put glue on a track and line it up with a hole. I personally would do this one track at a time and let the glue dry one at a time, and then when they are all dry I would then screw or rivet. This is just IMO, it depends on what look you are going for, a professionally made look, or a rough prop builder look. On my Vintage ESB the T tracks are glued on with Barge cement, the rivet/screws are ground off on the bottom so they are faux, and there are no hole in my 3 cell bottom. These grip are on there solid and are not coming off anytime soon unless I soak them in a Acetone bath.

Got mine finally. It's beautiful. I'm really enjoying it's clean look. I am still undecided about what to do with it, but for now it's going to stay pristine.
