Limited Run === G R A F L E X === Flashgun Gen.2 ... now taking PRE-ORDERS!!! New Pics Oct. 5

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

I used the Shapeways guide for my ANH build. I thought they did great. My t-tracks are from Roy at wannawanga, as was the d-ring & rivet. I just love everything he makes. So I trimmed & cut the angels into them with my Dremel. It was easier than I thought it would be, just take your time.
Pardon the crappy cell phone photos.

I really can't thank Roman enough for doing this run of these amazing GRAFLEX's. I have a hard time seeing them as "replicas". They're just stunning.

Looks great! What adhesive did you use for Wannawanga's grips and, what did you use on your Dremel? Regular cutting disk and sanding drum?

Thanks!

So what size hex wrench do I need to use to get the bunny ear screw out? Ive tried my hex multi-size tool and none of them work. Its not 1/16 or 5/64.

I haven't swapped mine, yet... but I remember someone mentioned it was a #7 torx bit.

EDIT: I removed mine with a 1/16 hex, if I recall correctly.

The curcuot lines on the saber seem to change depending on which saber it used in the film. Flipping it wont do.
The fat lines will be correct but then the thinner lines will be wronf.

Luckily i have another card with the other positioning.
Havent decided which one to use.

Nope. Every time the card is seen on screen on a physical saber it has the thick traces on the right, with the thin traces coming off the bottom left. Every time. Meaning you just have to rotate your card 180°.

In one scene the card is mirrored, with the thin traces going to the bottom right--the rotating CGI saber flying toward Rey's hand.

This aberrant mirrored version is also seen in the Launch Bay sabers.

Actually, Im going for the Maz box hero saber.
As far as I know, the card for this saber is never clearly shown in the film.

I firmly believe that the Maz Box saber is also the one in the Wired photos, and the one displayed on that cosmetics display tube thing that was posted several pages back on the TFA graflex thread.
This saber has the the thick traces on the left and the thin traces coming off the bottom right.

You sure? I'm almost positive I used 1/16 (I had to borrow a friend's as I didn't have one, so afraid I can't verify). Are your allen wrenches stripped? Also, you have to kind of gently spread the bunny ears to keep tension so it doesn't just spin if that makes sense.

Look back in the earlier pages of this thread. There's a grip alignment guide on shapeways for ESB and ANH based on who made your grips.

I used the paper template available from www.partsofsw.com. I took about ¼" off the top and bottom and taped it onto the flash, then lightly marked where the grips line up. Removed the templates and used those marks to place the grips. Turned out perfectly... and its free ;-)

Cool, nice to have option, Thank you

That turned out great, can't wait for mine to arrive and to get started on it.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

Got my TFA conversion kit in last night. I'll just offer up some quick comments...

Clamp Card - A slothfurnace card made specifically for Roman. Silver on green PCB. I would have liked a proper gold for the connectors, but I'm glad the PCB is not the uncolored translucent card. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Kobold clip and d-ring - The same chrome finish Kobold shipped with the Graflex 2.0 kits. No problem to hit it with a pad to dull and brush the finish. The d-ring fits nice and snug, so it doesn't swing.

Grips - Same as the Graflex 2.0 again, but minus the nubs on the backside that fit into the predrilled holes on the 2.0 bottom. I really like the ease of having them prenotched, predrilled, and prepped with the double sided tape. They all have two injection points on the edges of the sides. The tops of the track are slightly rounded off at the ends, which is very nice for a finished look.

For those who want to order the Shapeways guides, the grips are 12.75 mm wide, so you're going to want the Version A guides for either ANH or ESB/TFA, depending on your configuration.

Hardware - Button head hex screws for the grips and the Kobold. Those are fine. I may stick with those, as they look like rivets, but allow me the option of easily removing them if I ever decide to swap out the grips.

I'm giving the whole kit an 8/10, The kit benefits from the user-friendly, all-in-one nature of the Graflex 2.0, but suffers from the same quality and accuracy nitpicks as a result of being the same basic product. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it as a first build kit.

A million thanks to Roman for getting this project off the ground and running.

I couldn't find an allen key that would fit, but since I already had my replacement rivet/screws, I simply used a cutting wheel to cut a slot into the screw head to fashion a makeshift "flathead" and unscrewed then that way. I ended up doing the same thing with a Parks/Korbanth Graflex 2.1, although I was able to use a 1/16 (I think) Allen key to remove the ears on my 2.0.

Thanks guys :) Glad most people are happy. :)

Correct, it's a 1/16 hex. :)

Thank you sir!

This is is what I trimmed & cut my t-tracks with.
IMG_0668.JPG
I cut long, & then ground down to my measurement marks.
For glueing them onto my saber, I used a super-glue for modeling I got from a local mom & pop hobby store. I was going to go with an epoxy, but I know me, & I would'a made a hell of a mess. The glue I used sets up very fast (about 3 seconds). & as I was told, by the owner of the hobby store, "try not to glue your fingers together", was good advice. I know I'd have to cut them apart, if I did, because I've had to cut a few things off my fingers when I wasn't careful enough. It came in a purple bottle.

Used the same, well cutting wheel at least, standard, not that heavy duty one. I taped off the areas I didn't want cutoff and worked down then over to meet the tape edges. I should have put some thin styrene strips to the sides of the notch now that I've gone and cut the thing. I got a few little extra tiny notches to the sides of the notch and needed to do some sanding on all the tracks to correct.

The alignment guides on Shapeways really needs a hole cut out of the bottom so you can see where the text is to line it up correctly. I tried lining it up, but then when I pulled the guide off everything was off about 1/8" and i had to put it back on and slide everything over, then a bunch of sanding and polishing to get the smeared epoxy cleaned up. I've mentioned it to him and sounds like he is updating the guides, Also he should have TFA Finn/Rey and Maz guides up soon matching Roy's grip length calculations.

Anyone here going the FX route and not using the plastic bulb connector assembly? Please drop me a line.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

Got mine yesterday, Roman - I *love* it! Thanks so much for doing this.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

Quite frustrating, anyone in the UK can tell me how long from arriving in the UK, USPS saying handed over to it actually arriving? Mine was handed to UK post service 4 days ago. Not logged onto UK tracking service, just a void. Getting impatient now :facepalm
