Well I can see some attempts at continuity, particularly with the hand phaser (but in some ways also looks like the much later assault phaser), but the entire impact seems to be more from the Kelvin timeline than the original timeline. What is that gold 'decoration' at the collar? It looks like Klingon writing. I get the feeling they are just making this up as they go along with a familiar reference here and there for the fans.
