Marty spoke before about people ruining his reputation (ha!) - well, he's taken money from us, and I'm pretty sure he's lied about various things. He claimed that he made and sold an alien head to Adam Savage - strange, because Adam Savage himself says different... Marty even mailed me the picture from this article back in January!

I think we need to let people know that he's a con artist. He can 'poor mouth' all he wants about losing his job, health etc but the fact is, he takes peoples' money and gives nothing in return.
There must be something we can do to 'formalise' this - a kind of blacklist?

I take any complaint seriously and certainly wouldnt blow off something like this.
To all reading this thread, if you ever have a similar issue, contact me either privately or publicly (in an open thread) and we will resolve any issue. I have no problem completely replacing a head or giving a full refund if you are not satisfied.
I can verify all this of course, but my real fear is that me "vanishing" like this has damaged my reputation. I can only imagine how crappy it feels to send someone money to do a project for you only to have them suddenly vanish with your cash.
One thing I truly admire about this community is the kindness of strangers. There's lots of trust involved with sending often hundreds of dollars to people you've never really met. The fact it works at all gives me faith in humanity and our ability to trust one another as a community of individuals of similar interests.
My health issues were catastrophic and nearly deadly. Through it all I worried that after serving members of this forum and building their trust over the years, that I may have lost all trust I spent years building up.
I would honestly rather issue a refund than deliver a head that is below standard.
This would mean that last guy would be waiting 6+ months for his product and thats far longer than what I think is reasonable.
My biggest fear (other than losing the job I had) is the fact that everyone here will immediately feel abandoned them and laughed all the way to the bank with their hard earned cash.
Its going to take time, but I know I can rebuild the relationship Ive had with yourselves and dozens of past customers.
The more I read these comments and assumptions the more im convinced that people here see me as some kind of predatory opportunist, dying to make a buck by any means necessary. In your shoes, I might assume the same thing.
I dont want anyone to suffer because I wasnt able to meet my expectations or obligations.

I've been reading this other thread about SD Studios which (like many other scenarios here on the RPF) is all-too-similar to this situation. I wish there was a way leverage could be used, like they are doing with SD Studios, here in this situation. Any ideas?

Looking back over my eBay messages from Marty...
"Im just REALLY paranoid since an RPF guy named Glenn Maynard ordered a top of the line head, paid for it, I sent it off, then he somehow convinced Paypal to refund all his money. TWICE. $650 total. I lost one of the best heads ever made AND he overdrew my account, AND he kept both money and head. This was with tracking, mind you. It totally scares the hell out of me every time I send one overseas for this reason. Oh, and they refunded his money TWICE because it overdrew my account or something. Its a long story but it cost me the head and over $1200. It ruined it for everyone at RPF basically since only Ebay has working protection for sellers."

If Marty doesn't want to ship overseas, that's OK, but in that case he should not take payments from people over seas and if he does, he should refund at the moment he says he doesn't want to ship overseas.
All in all, again, I guess talking about it here won't solve a thing. Time for action ...

Disclaimer – both my brother and a close friend have been declared bankrupt. By that I mean – they lost their homes, certain possessions – practically everything. Sure, it was formalised – the banks involved helped in making sure certain debtors got paid certain percentages. But you know what?
Neither of them saw a person (i.e., not a company) go without the full amount they had given to them. They didn't run and hide, or ignore those who had given them money. They worked out how to repay them, told them what they were going to do. And my brother has kids!
Now, with that out of the way, here are the highlights from yesterday of the text conversation between myself and Marty, starting at 8:20pm GMT (my time.) He's got some balls, I can tell you. Also interesting that he initiated the conversation. He couldn't be reading this very thread, could he?!? All text and spelling errors are from the originals. Where the messages split over 2 or 3 texts, I've put them together. Notes are in italics. And he does start very strangely...
M(arty) : I don't think you get it.Everyone gets their head. With the molds destroyed and the new ones producing terrible results that may not even work, I'm totally stuck. It's about survival over here. I'm.not sure if your aware of the state of the us economy, but I simply don't have money to give. I begged and borrowed to get the new molds made and it was a disaster. Its about survival over here. (Yeah, because Ireland is doing so well, economically... And I have personal stuff that I'm financially screwed on too! Marty knows this.)
P(eter, me!) : Everyone gets their heads?!? Then where's mine? Or my money?? And what are you selling on ebay then? If it all makes sense and you can defend it, then come onto the board. M : The plan was to produce heads to generate income for just that reason. In fact I'm still trying. I tried, but couldn't afford the materials to do it properly. It was a last ditch effort to save everything.

M : Those heads are warped and require a ton of work to be usable. And you should believe me because I have no motivation to lie. The Guy who cranked out high dollar and high quality heads for years doesn't suddenly stop for no reason. I lost my job. (One of those 'unusable' heads is on sale on eBay for$650. Unusable!! No motivation to lie – yet he says he lost his job a year ago, and had to move in with his girl friend as a result – more on that later...)
P : Doesn't stop suddenly? Mine, Joe's and about 3 or 4 others. No communication from you. No reason given. Either get honest or pay the price. (Dramatic,aren't I?) And they're warped? The auctions don't say so. “Painted as you want it... Delivered to your door... 5-7 days.”
