Found! Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH Lightsaber Emitter

I think I'm going to have to apply for 2-3 new credit cards so I can afford to purchase these parts (the real ones) as they become available......

The Derwent Mk8 at Anchor salvage has been sold to a US buyer who only wants the flame tubes and balance pipes. I just found out from one of the two RPFers that were in contact with them about it.

I hope the buyer knows that it may not contain the correct parts.
It could have the wrong balance pipes and/or flame tubes.
They are taking a $9000 gamble.

The scrapyard refused to take the engine apart at all unless it was fully paid for. I was having my source check for the engine's records and other ways to tell if the parts we need are inside.

Well, I hope the greedy son of a bith gets hosed on ALL the parts. They pretty much have it coming for a stunt like that.

So much for the group effort.

huh.

It was the best of times, et cetera....

Thanks for the Hut pic, Brian. Here's the comparison:

What do we know of the Derwent Mk 8?

If I understand correctly, lonepigeon posted a pic of a Mk8 in a museum with the correct balance pipes, but Kurtyboy wrote that his incorrect balance pipes came from a Mk8. :confused

Good news regarding the Derwent 8 at Anchor.
It turns out they're holding it for one of the RPFers I've been working with so all is good.
The news that it had sold surprised both guys that were researching it.
We will be checking it out as thoroughly as possible and hopefully find definite answers on it before anyone commits to purchase.

Darth Lars - The correct balance pipes and flame tubes are both modifications ("mods") that were applied to Derwent Mk.8's and 9's. The trouble is not all engines were necessarily modified/upgraded (depends on who owned it and their use etc.). I think the mods are likely more common in the newer Mk9's, but many Mk8's were upgraded to 9's as well. The change from 8 to 9 lies in the ignition system though so not all 8's upgraded to 9's would necessarily have the correct parts. I lucked out with the museum's upgraded Mk8.

Ideally we could just open up any engine we find and check, but in the case of this one engine found and probably others they won't let you take 'em apart until you buy 'em.
Hopefully my contact will be able to help us with this.
He's checking manuals and Mod paperwork while also attempting to run the serial numbers of any specific engines found (to get the engine histories).

So how many correct IG 88 heads and Obi emitters would a properly upgraded Derwent have?

And what about that second ring of holes- did I miss that?

Great work IDing other parts in the film as well guys...

There would be 9 flame chambers (IG88 heads) and 9 correct balance pipe mods for the emitter.

As far as I can tell there is no second ring of holes. Not sure how that all started with the replicas, but it was probably a fantasy add-on, just as SD once put blue gems in his emitter... :p

I don't think anyone's done a 2nd ring of holes since the Chen versions of the Icons design?
