First sculpt. Halo MK VI helmet.

Holy hell! That helmet looks great!
Nice sculpt. I also think the pepped part isn't cheating.
Wow...

You're doing one hell of a job, Drack. I sure hope you're gonna cast this.

Thank you guys.
Oh and yes I will be definitely be casting it :)

Here are the latest pics. It's getting close to tidying things up and smoothing out time!

Looking great!
Are you going to just add in the venting lateron the side of the cheeks? Why not now...

Yeah I will be adding them in but I want to make sure the holes they go in are correctly mirrored first. Once the vent holes are perfect I will sculpt the pipe things seperate then pop them in place.

Fantastic work on the helmet! I'd been considering doing something similar, but possibly an EVA or CQC helmet, as opposed to the MK VI.
On the subject of the visor, I've heard NASA use a method called vacuum metalizing in order to get a layer of gold thin enough to allow the astronaughts to see through on their space suit helmet visors...? However I can imagine it would most likely be overly expensive, but it was just a thought...any way, keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing your progress.

Thank you man :)
Funny you should mention the visor. I have spent all day looking for ways to do it. I have a few ideas but none concrete enough to put the info out there. I will try to find the cheapest way to test then post up my findings. Just to be on the safe side I am going to order a motor cycle visor and make some templates to make sure if all else fails it will fit in to the helmet.

No worries!
A motorbike visor sounds like a good call actually. I'm sure I've seen others who've used that approach and had some pretty awesome results! If memory serves I've even seen someone use two in order to create the sort of "stepped" visor detailing. It did make the visor a little bulky though.

I also just stumbled upon this - Tutorial: Make & Paint Your Own See-through Visor - 405th Infantry Division
Whilst trying to find out the material of a motorbike helmet(in order to see if it was suitable for re-moulding, shape wise)..not quite sure how I ended up there. Hopefully you've not previously visited that link, and I'm now a complete saviour! ;-) haha. There's a lot of text but you should be able to skip to the actual colouring part.

Thank you for the link but I am very familiar with 405th and am quite well know there. I have already made a full Halo suit including detailed visor. I did it with perspex heated in an oven, shaped and then cut out the details then added in visor tint inserts to get the gold. The thing I want with this helmet is the bubble shape so thats why I am trying to work out how to tint the perspex I will vacuum form from the cast. Like I said though if it doesn't work out I will just use 2 visors. I wouldn't even bother buying any because the self made ones are much cheaper but because I am going to do a run of this helmet I want it so others can use the motor cycle visor option if they want.

Fair enough - I did think it seemed kind of obvious. Oh well! Your method sounds like it should be pretty effective. As I said, I'll be following the thread, so it will be interesting to see if you come up with a solution.

Update time.

Getting close to having it ready for smoothing out now. Just a few bits to work on and lines to be cleaned up. The back needs some serious tidying up and I want to make the 2 main bits on top a bit more interesting but I know what it needs.

Wow, definitely a very clean and accurate sculpt! Here are some observations of mine that I noticed, but overall, it's a beautiful sculpt

Yeah I know there some bits different on mine, in fact there are a lot more than that but I wanted my own touch on it and after looking through all the images I found no two were really the same. Well they were of course but with all the variations I though sod it, I'm making this one mine :)
Although thank you for pointing out the line you circled in purple I completely forgot to add that. I will be adding the visor indent circled in orange after casting though cause just trying to get that Perspex in the sculpt was a pain so getting the cut outs lined up would have been worse.
