Firefly Weapons Collection

I've got it on good authority that the badge is supposed to be point down (so the star is point up). Apparently, the orientaiton in "The Message" (where it's point up), was a wardrobe mistake.

'Course we could split the difference and have it sideways.....

It was like that in the pilot episode too but I guess they only assembled those costumes once. Well, the star points down with the patch pointed up but to me the patch pointing up makes the most sense since pointing it down would mean you'd have to move it way down off the shoulder where it should be.

Aren't the patches supposed to be pointing upward? They are pointing upward in the pics in the Official companion.

The patches that are DISPLAYED in the Official Companion have the triangle pointing down and the star point up. The soldier ID info on the back of the patches is meant to be read from that orientation. The patches AS SEWN ON Mal's coat are opposite, that is to say triangle point up and star point down. The seamstress sewed them on upside down because she thought that was right and in the rush of TV production, no one thought anything of it until the shooting was done.

I personally like the triangle point down orientation.
I think costume designer [SIZE=-1]Shawna Trpcic came up with some very imaginative imagery on a budget for Firefly (the suits without lapels like Niska wore, etc.) so I also view it as a nod to her original vision.

And my BS excuse for Mal's being upside down?
Well, the Alliance triangle patches (which weren't actually designed until Geoff Mandel did them for the BDM) are point up; so some Independents flipped them so as to not be as obvious a targtet from far away.
(yeah, I know that can bite you right back!)

Some other fan's hypothesis was that is was flipped upside down to express shame when the high command surrendered and the troops chose to fight on. The only problem with that is Mal's is shown before the big disillusionment scene in the TV pilot "Serenity".

Here's my set of Zoe's ill-gotten gains and what she used to get em.

SAS

At last, she can retire and give up that life of crime!

Very nice! I think you posted the pistol (based on the Colt) before and I don't know that any one else has done that one. Nicely done and unique.

What is the Mare's Leg? Resin, airsoft, metal dummy?

Marushin gas airsoft (all metal and wood) - its missing the back leaf sight and front blade but i'm looking to get some to add. It loads and shoots exactly the same as the real deal, fascininating to cycle and fire BBs through it.

My next display project.
Like Everything else I touch in the 'verse, it's spiraling out of control!

The items inside the frame are arranged basically how I plan to place them.
I'll end up cropping the pictures because I believe blank space is almost as important as layout in the composition.
The Mal/Zoe display is a little on the busy side, but I felt it works.
I haven't decided on a definite background color, yet.
But I'm leaning towards grey.

I purchased some Alliance purple material from the person who bought Simon's Alliance officer disguise. I also bought three of the pins she made from the screen-used original.
(She has had a costume/uniform made by pulling a pattern from the original screen-used costume.)
The folded light blue rag represents where the "uniform" will go as a way to display the pins.
The officer beside the Operative is wearing one of the purple uniforms.
I'm keeping the purple uniform part of the display to a minimum because I REALLY dislike the "bling-trooper" look of the movie uniforms.

I hope to get a chance to make a more screen-accurate handle for the Operative sword this weekend.
But the way things have been going, I don't know...

The badge to the far left above the framed display is one of Blad's Alliance badges. It is like the one Lt. Womack flashed before he threatened the Post Office guy in "The Messeage".
(I was just bluffing about arresting you; who needs that kind of paperwork. Skunk, light 'im on fire."
Firefly series UAP patch from patchgeeks.com over the Interstellar Alliance Vessel Dortmunder name tag I had made.
Alliance bandana, Jubal's pistol, and the Blue hands death device (not shown) will make a whole 'nother display.
And I'm thinking of a third...

Can I get a bright green one please, with a bright orange barrel plug!? :rolleyes

heh. does that actually work? i wonder if we'll see prop makers using crazy tints in the resin to accommodate the crazy new UK rules...

use red, yellow and orange tints and make it match the jayne hat.

Time to revive this thread from the dead! :D The last post was the day before my first eye surgery last fall, so needless to say, I was a BIT pre-occupied with pre-op preparations to follow this thread the way that I should have! ;)

Anyone have any new props to share?

I'm trying to get my stuff organized so that I can display it, but I don't know how I'm going to do it... I can't find a shadow box big enough or deep enough... I might go with an acrylic case. Pricey, but I can get the exact size that I need... :)

This makes me want to work on my Jayne even more! I'd like to do it for D*Con. Anyone know how to get a Vera or Lemat kit?
